Great @ema1! I believe that the more we know about our bodies and our family medical history, the better we and our families will be.
Genetic testing is one of the ways we can do that. However, many don't want to know; others are concerned about finding out something may be wrong. Others will have the genetic test but may not want to share their information with family members.
Once a cancer is discovered, or when there is a history of one or more cancers in the family, I am in strong support of being tested. Should there be any genetic mutations of concern, the type of treatment may need to be changed; therefore, doing so before the surgery, in my view, is certainly best.
Hey @sue417 - Yes, I slept slightly elevated after surgery. Both in the hospital and at home. At home, I also used a pillow under each arm (I had reconstruction on both breasts). The pillow was not very thick, just enough to raise my arms. It really helped with the pain and general comfort.

I will not have any drains. I have a wedge pillow from when I had a compression fracture last yr so I will use that. I still sleep propped up, I can't lay flat since this fracture.

Hey @sue417 - I understand! Glad you will not have any drains. Mine caused a lot of pain!
That was another lesson I learned: Don't assume your pain is "normal". Say something. I didn't ... Then I learned that the excruciating pain could have been avoided: When the doctor removed the drains, my pain went away. BUT I didn't say anything for 10 days!
So, if something hurts, do speak up. It may be something avoidable.
@sue417 - I agree! I don't expect your surgery will cause you any issues. However, it's OK to feel anxious and afraid. Who wouldn't be?
Keep the faith and be strong. It will be over in a very short time! Once home, be sure to take your pain meds as prescribed, keep well hydrated, and eat nutritious meals. If you need any help, do ask. I am pretty sure that your sister or your neighbor will be able to help.
Tomorrow will be a big day. I pray you will be in and out of surgery quickly and safely. Remember, you are strong, and many are in your corner, praying and thinking of you!

Hi All
I had my surgery yesterday lumpectomy. They removed my nipple and took the dcis that way. Now I wait 4 wks for pathology.
