Ativan not working
I have been taking .5 mg of Ativan for almost 5 years. It is not working now. Get really anxious and down in the afternoon.
Not sleeping well. Wake up and can’t go back to sleep.
Last night I took a 1 benedryl at 3:30am.
Big mistake! I did sleep a couple of hours but I feel horrible. Anyone tried this?. Also what about a glass of wine before bedtime?
I know I need to get with my PCP and start weaning off Ativan but we are going on vacation for 2 months and I don’t want to be experiencing withdrawal. I am a mess.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Thank you

Yes my pcp knows I use medical gummies and told me that he has prescribed cannabis for patients
Thank you
I am prescribed Ativan for anxiety as needed. I do not take it daily. My psychiatrist told me in the beginning that it was the only option for my situation and that is addictive. I knew from the beginning that I would not take it daily because I wanted it there when I really needed it and those times happen. I also take Cymbalta now at a low dose ( this is all after 2 years of trying multiple antidepressants). If the Ativan is being prescribed just for sleeping, I would talk to the doctor about other options that are not addictive. I think the PCP should have known this would happen over the course of years. Short term treatment with Ativan would have made sense, but this PCP continued your prescription for years. Of course, you would need an increase in the dosage. I personally think sleep issues should be treated with an addictive drug.
I hope you have a good meeting with your doctor and a wonderful vacation with your family.
Thank you so much for your comments.
I found the longer one takes Ativan the less it works and therefore medication needs to be increased. Not ideal situation. Good luck
I tried melatonin for a while but caution because it can cause horrific nightmares. Start out with small dosage like 1 mg, but with physician guidance. Another caution it can cause eye issues so do research.
Do you know what symptoms are of developing tolerance to Ativan? I am refusing to up my dosage.
I do not feel well and by pm I am jittery and depressed.
Need off this medicine
I took 1 mg of Klonopin (similar to Ativan) for sleep for almost 20 years and never had to up the dose. Eventually no doctor would prescribe it and sent me to a psychiatrist who had me do a very slow taper off. The insomnia was awful - awake all night some nights. I tried antihistamines and Remeron, which did not work. Gummies CBD/THC worked well and finally after 6 weeks off of the Klonopin (9 month taper) I am sleeping without anything but 7.5mg of Remeron. I don't even know if that is helping so I will eventually try stopping it to see if I am still sleeping. I have had 10 sessions of acupuncture. It takes time for our central nervous system to adjust because we are dependent on the drug. It also takes patience in the process. This is not easy when we are irritable, jittery, and not sleeping.
What are those benefits?
Find an older doctor. I had to search for one that would continue my Ativans. Also, if you take Ativan on an empty stomach, I find it works better.
