GI Disorder and Internal Shaking
Hi all. I'm a 21 year old South Asian female and I have been having GI issues for about five years--mainly along the lines of constipation. I do have bowel movements every day but it takes a long time & I am rarely fully cleared out. These GI issues are always accompanied by other health issues (gas, pressure in head, etc). Recently, some scary new conditions have manifested: In the past few weeks, there have been times where my heart starts beating wildly and very fast. Sometimes, when I'm tired and constipated, my entire body feels like its vibrating internally; the shakes aren't visible but it feels like all my muscles are quivering. At this point, I feel a constant shaking/quivering within my body, especially in my heart cavity.
I have had TWO EKG's and both came back normal. All lab tests for diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol, etc came back within normal limits. I am very concerned about this internal shaking. My dad says he found something about how GI disorders can impact muscoskeletal system and since the heart is a muscle, it's contracting and being affected. But I wanted to know if anyone here can help!!!!!!! If anyone knows anything at all please please please let me know!!!!!

Have the doctors checked your thyroid. I was having similar issues especially the inner quivers..which are miserable..and my thyroid had gotten way off. I’m sorry that you are having all these issues. Have your tried Miralax? I have suffered all my life..literally..was born with constipation..and nothing worked until Mirelax. I take 2 cap fills at night. Works like a charm. Good luck. This is a lovely group of people willing to share all that they have learned. Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing.
Iberogast, a 9 herb mix really works well for motility problems. it might be worth a try.
I suffer from internal vibrations, and I also have some kind of adrenal gland dysfunction that causes my blood pressure to be very high and my potassium to be low. I am also withdrawing from benzodiazepines and many people who are in withdrawal or tapering off benzos suffer from these internal vibrations.
I also found that making a pudding with 3 tablespoons of Chia seed and liquid of choice has done wonders for constipation
I am going through withdrawal as I taper off of Klonopin. Internal vibrations were the first thing I noticed when I started tapering, and even when I was in tolerance to the dose I was on for many years. I belong to a benzodiazepine support group and many of the members, there are 3500 of us report these internal vibrations. It’s the strangest feeling. Be careful how long you are on Klonopin because you can become dependent on it. I just watched this great documentary with Lisa Ling on the discovery channel, called “the benzo crisis”, and one of the women interviewed reported these vibrations. I wonder how many medication’s can be linked to this kind of symptom? I know antipsychotics for sure. And I know it’s miserable.
I don’t have to take klonopin everyday … I only take it as needed basis .
My digestive disorders started way before I started taking it .
Hopefully your internal shaking will improve once you are off it for good . Def good you are tapering slowly. You really have to w/ any benzo’s .
Best wishes to all of us that have all these chronic challenges.
Happy Holidays.
Thank you, many people do not realize that benzo should only be used for 4 to 6 weeks maximum or occasionally if you are going to take a flight or something else that is terrifying to you. Physical dependence can happen quickly in some people I was on it for 30+ years, and did not develop a physical dependence that I knew of I taper off of it in the fall and then got such terrible symptoms including the internal vibrations that I reinstated, and now I am going through yet a second taper. My daughter was taking tamazepam for migraine headaches occasionally, and I have told her now to not use it anymore. I am an extreme case, although I have found many other people who have been over prescribed benzos for as long as I was. It now has a black box warning. I am still taking 1.5 mg per day down from 2.5 to 3 mg per day. My taper will be slow, but considering the severity of my symptoms, I don’t think I have any other choice. Thanks for your kind words.
I have a friend who’s been on it for over 30 years and takes 4 mg a day ( spread out ), also on anti depressants and sleep med . Plus meds for other health conditions now . She’s 63 .
It’s very sad 😞, she won’t even try to taper off as she said she needs them to survive day by day .
Her life is lonely and no kids not married and siblings don’t really care much .
I wish she could slowly get off some of it but it’s a disease like any other .
Did you ever figure out what caused the internal shaking? I get the same thing at night in my skull when I start to fall asleep!
Yeah, I was prescribed several tummy meds and one of them causes the shaking. I’m not sure if it was the famotidine or the domperidone but my GP said it’s most likely the domeridone as it can cause that kind of side effects. Anyhow, I stop taking both and just increase the dose of my omeprazole if needed. It seems to help.
