New Med - Sudden reduction in inner monologue or ability to day dream

Posted by tbisc05 @tbisc05, Dec 4, 2023

Hi,

So I started taking Meclizine because I was suffering from constant dizziness. It definitely helps with the dizziness quit a bit, but taking it coincided with a reduction in my ability to have an inner monologue (slightly - a strange difficulty but it can still happen).

Plus, I can't day dream properly, which I did a metric ton before, but now it does not happen at all unless I am explicitly trying, and even then, the images don't form in my head. Pretty quickly, the thoughts just fade into a white void in my mind and I stop thinking much at all - and I sort of snap out of it after a few seconds.

I am curious if anyone has ever heard of this as a side effect from Meclizine before. It does inhibit certain receptors in the brain so it seems like it could theoretically have effects on how you think.

That is very strange!

Have you pursued any alternatives to meclizine? Physical therapists who specialize in vertigo can be very helpful. Possibilities range from vestibular migraine to BPPV (diagnosed by eye movements), vestibular neuritis, labyrynthitis, Meniere's, probably more. For many of those diagnoses there are specific exercises done in the PT office and then at home on a daily basis, that can help a lot.

That's definitely on my radar! I think it might be worth just trading the meds for the physical therapy, and see if everything in my head returns to normal. That way I would know it was the Meclizine and not something else.
