Before my mother passed I had her tested she was negative for factor V, my dad was also tested, negative! So they told me, not sure how true drs were but I have it, you have to have one parent with the gene correct?

From everything I’m reading from various sources, Factor V Leiden is an inherited condition passed from one parent, and rarely, though possible, from both parents. I couldn’t find anything to indicate this could be an acquired mutation.
So…if that’s the case…somebody has some ‘splainin’ to do. 😉 I’m sure you’re scratching your head now.

A few questions for your hematologist; Can a person have Factor V Leiden with no familial history? Can it be an acquired mutation?
