Posted by chrisself @chrisself, Nov 17, 2023

Latest strange symptom: excessive saliva causing occasional drooling. Brain MRI shows nothing. Neurologist said could be inflammation now in salivary glands. Anyone else experiencing this symptom? Long hauler for 17 months…

What inhaler have you found that helps with mucus? My son has tried every kind of nasal spray, albuterol inhaler and Flovent inhaler and none of that works. He has almost all of the long covid symptoms but the mucus is the worst.

My doctor prescribed this. For me, the Albuterol wasn’t effective enough. This has two medications and a glass container to load a cartridge in. It’s not a steroid. Your doc can tell you more than I can recall being told. This links to the product. I don’t know if all the statements are accurate. Ask your doc. https://www.goodrx.com/combivent/what-is

Prescription flonase as given to me at the same time.

Yes! I’ve not had an issue with drooling, but I seem to be producing more saliva than normal.

I have been suffering excess water in mouth every time I have to swallow every half minute... Consulted to many doctors like ent, surgeons, endocrinologists, md medicibes, dentist they all said nothing wrong orally I have undergone through salivary glands ultrasound which is normal.. Blood tests like crp, esr, sgot, sgpt, cretainine, cbc blood urea, blood sugar all appears normal..... But why there is excess saliva in mouth all the time..... Glycopyyrrolate and oxibutynin only give temporary relief but massive side effects...... Now I have decided to go with homeopathy for long term...... May God help us... Can anyone tell why is this?

sunil123, God Bless you. I battled extra mucous in the back of my throat and excessive slimy saliva from having had COVID. I tried so many things. I, like you went through many tests and doctors could find nothing. I believe COVID attacked my Salivary Gland and caused extra mucous in the back of my throat. I am very prone to upper respiratory infections and I believe I was hit hard from COVID in that area.

I am cleared of this after 2 years. BUT, if I get an upper respiratory infection, the mucous/extra saliva ramps up for a little while until the infection clears.

These are the things I tried. Some of them, helped some didn't. Please consult your doctor before trying:

1) NAC supplement by Thorne as it helps with inflammation and it is like an antihistamine. I had to drink extra water with this as it will dry you out if you don't....eyes included. I only could tolerate 1/2 of a 500 mg capsule.

2) I scraped my tongue with a tongue scraper daily....first thing in the mornings were the worst. I did this a lot at the onset and then was told by a professional to not scrape as often.

3) I upped my dental hygiene with Peroxdyl by Colgate (Dentist recommended) and a Waterpik and of course, brushing & flossing. You hold the Peroxdyl in your mouth for a few seconds, swish, spit out and rinse your mouth. Do not swallow. The Dermatologist who was the only one that cultured my mouth, told me to use Listerine zero to keep bacteria down. I did not do this along with the Peroxdyl, but, at a different time of the day. The excessive salvia/mucus was worse in the mornings.

4) I faithfully took vitamins being: Vitamin C, Vitamin D3 +K2, B Complex, Zinc, NAC, Quercitin, Omega 3, Magnesium.

5) I would get choked on this stuff at night. I recommend elevating your head with extra pillows or putting blocks under each side of the head of the head. This is also good for acid reflux. By the way, my Acid Reflux worsened as well. I question if the two worked against each other. I had to increase my Acid Reflux meds for several months.

6) Drink lots and lots of water. Water helps to thin out mucus.

7) I also did salt water rinses & coconut oil pulling.

8) I did find that certain foods made it worse such as salty foods.

Praying for you as I know how frustrating and time consuming this is. Blessings....

Thanks but i dont have mucus but only watery mouth.. I am taking homeopathy medicines and rinse of baking soda in warm water.... I wil continue homeopathy medicines as suggested by the homeopathic practitioner particularly to reduce saliva I know homeopathy wil take some time but i wil have patience because it does not have side effects like anticholinergic medicines which are very dreadful..... They give only temporary relief.... Hope for the best.

Sunil, do you still have this issue? It's now been 14 months and hasn't cleared up with me yet. I haven't done any advanced test but I probably should. I suspect the spike proteins are in my salivary glands but who knows...I was hoping this strange symptom had now been experienced by more people and perhaps there were solutions...
