Fecal Microbiota Transplant (FMT)
I have been researching this procedure and the success occurring with C Diff and now some success with curing ulcerative colitis.
My 43 year old son has severe recurring kidney stones ( lithrotripsy every 8-10 weeks) and he had medullary sponge kidney and ulcerative colitis, both of which can cause kidney stones.
Our hope is that if the FMT cured his ulcerative colitis, and IF that was the cause of his kidney stones he may be cured. Does anyone have any experience please?

Thank you SO much, Janet, for sharing that info. The hospital in CO at which my Dr. practices has not (yet) approved the pill form, but has just approved Rebyota.
So sorry that you, too, have been suffering with recurrent, debilitating bouts. My heart goes out to you.
Would very much appreciate hearing about your outcome.
In the past, has your Dr. recommended any probiotic to take? Or any special diet to follow?
I'm currently on pulse & taper of Vancomycin, which only works for a few months.
Thanks for responding.
All the best,
Elaine
Oh, I know exactly what you mean. C-diff controls every aspect of our life, and having to isolate does not help our mood.
Hoping you have a good Gastroenterologist.
I'm new to this discussion, but feel the connectivity to others who understand.
Do your own research, too, to find what procedure you'd be comfortable with. Mayo Clinic seems to have fact-based answers.
Wishing you success in your search.
Thank you Elaine. I am on my second taper of vancomycin. I got cdiff one week after my first taper. I take a probiotic called Floristor twice daily. I pray you find relief soon.
Florestore is a good probiotic for c diff.
It's a little expensive but all the others don't really have any documentation that they help CD but Florester does
I feel your pain! I had c-diff 3 times in 2023 and had it twice prior to that. Did the long term vancomycin three times My doctor finally got me approved for Vowst. It’s a fecal micro transplant in pill form. I took it the last of December 2023 and have been c-diff free since then. I would talk to your doctor about it. Hope that helps.
I JUST FINISHED THE FECAL TRANSPLANT, VOWST AND WHILE IT LOWERED MY BMS, THE CDIFF ODOR IS LIKE ALL OVER ME, AND IM REAL ANAL ABOUT CLEANLINESS, I KNOW I DEFINITELY STILL HAVE IT, I WAS WONDERING IF YOU HAD SUCH A REACTION. GOOD LUCK TO YOU. EVERYONE WITH THIS HORRRIBLE CONDITION YOU ARE IN MY PRAYERS.
Has anyone been treated with Vowst
@jfperrone, I moved your question about being treated with VOWST for c-difficle to this related discussion:
- Anyone had Fecal Microbiota Transplant (FMT) for C Difficile?

Here you can connect with others who have had C-diff and Fecal Microbiota Transplant to help them avoid repeat infections like @sandyabbey @pines @nettecook @concernedmtnmom and @wendyw
@janet4038 also talks about successful treatment with Vowst here https://connect.mayoclinic.org/comment/1019475/
My sister had a fecal transplant for C diff it worked immediately and she stayed better. She had horrible C Diff for 6 months from taking an antibiotic, then she was given more antibiotics to try to get rid of it that did nothing. Then she had fecal transplant, I was the donor. She was 100 better the following day and stayed better, it works. Don't do at home capsules or anything like that, go to a qualified doctor who does the procedure who will be sure the stool you are getting has no pathogens in it, and you will be better immediately.
Hello my GI is next step of treatment after I am done with Vanco and test negative. Can you share how long it’s been since your had cdiff after the FMT? And did you get sick or side affects with it?
