I have the same issue. I had revision surgery on both hips this last year and I get the same sharp thigh pains. I walk a lot at work and yesterday the pain in my thighs made me limp and wax painful. I do stretch before I shower in the morning before work. The pain is sharp. But not all the time
I had 2 hip replacements and 3 years on continued to do daily stretches and exercise which eliminated thigh pain. 2nd hip replacement was a breeze. Now, however, dealing with staph infection in 1st hip which was done 3 years ago!?. Currently mid-way through 6 week antibiotic IV treatment and hip spacer. Hip spacer has been excruciating I must say. I think I saw that someone had posted that it was and instrument of torture!.I hope that I am able to get new hip end of November and recover back to normal activity once again!

Any pain severe enough to knock you down or persistent enough to need crutches should send you straight back to the operating surgeon. Have you been seen by them?
The usual ways to diagnose a problem like this begin with an x-ray followed by manual manipulation and possibly other imaging.

I think it's because your nerves are healing, I always refer to that pain as my nerves being angry about being messed with and trying to wake up. It will eventually stop. I don't have anymore pain and actually it's like I never had replacements. It took a year to year and a half to feel really good. Now hopefully my knees do the same after a year , I'm 8 months and 6 months post op from knee replacements. I wish you luck and hope this helps.

I had RHR five years ago. The original pain in my pelvic area is gone but now I have bursitis in that hip. It hurts from the side down my thigh to my knee. I have fifteen inside stairs and I was using that leg to pull my other leg up because I have bone on bone left knee. I have had a few cortisone shots and some have helped and some haven't done a thing.
I had total hip replacement in June,2021, then the implant repositioned deeper inside my femur, and need hip replacement revision done in Aug 2021. Ever since then, I've had pain the the mid-front of my left thigh whenever I stand or walk. I have no pain while sitting or laying, unless I try to move my left leg. I've had epidurals, nerve blocks, myofacial release, body scan, therapy, nerve root injection....none of which has helped.
Next week I go in for trial period of Spinal Cord Stimulation. I've about had it!!!

I too have had the same pain but eventually it went away. It took about three years. Could it be from the muscle and that's why a nerve block didn't help? Before you do anything permanent, I suggest you go to a therapist proficient in orthopedic manual massage as see if it helps.
@edith60 - I am sorry to read of your problem. I am, however, grateful that you posted because you described my problem to a tee! I had hip replacement 21 months ago and have been having this issue off and on since about 6-8 mos after surgery. I went to my surgeon last July (2023) and he took and x-ray and said the prosthetic he placed looked good. I told him that there are times that the pain is so severe I can't walk at all unless I have a cane or something to lean on and he said sounds like a nerve problem and wants to send me to another Dr. These visits are $600 a pop. Were you ever able to get a satisfactory answer and resolution for your pain? Trying to educate myself as much as possible before I see another Dr. Thank you!
Hello! A pertinent topic in Hope to gain insight on corrective action.
Anterior THR left. Surgery ten years ago-great. Last 2 years VERY painful down thigh, Im active, only 60 but have a noticeable limp and I’m not weight bearing a few days each Mos.
My surgeon states the Femoral stem didn’t adhere properly and has adhered to scar tissue, hence now I need a posterior left THR. 2nd surgery in 10 years which I can’t yet see a benefit, nor afford? My Cleveland Clinic surgeon since retired.
Chiropractor discourages surgery and X-ray show my pelvis is clearly tilted. Much physical therapy hasn’t curtailed my pain nor limp, My shoe orthotics have proven unsuccessful for my gait. Last, Im taking a lot of Tylenol w/ Voltarin- in a quandary!
