Any advice? Meningioma Brain Tumor
I was recently referred to a neurologist by my PCP. I have been having episodes of what I thought was "passing out" and memory issues. The neurologist told me that my EEG was abnormal, the episodes are seizures. I have never had seizures before, I am 49 years old. They also had me get a MRI where they found a small Meningioma Brain Tumor. I have a follow-up MRI in a few months. I am nervous now, thinking I may have blown off symptoms. I am the caretaker for my 19 year old quadraplegic son (anoxic brain injury when he was 12). My sleep pattern is crazy, stress level is high as I also work fulltime. I tend to blame everything on just being tired. I've been having trouble hearing our of my L ear for a couple of years. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

The good news is they say most meningioma's are not cancerous. Also everyones doctor seems to be recommending the same thing......watch it for 3 months with MRI's to see if it changes in anyway. In the meantime it would be prudent of you to research Neurosurgeons, your neurologist can probably recommend the best, and get a second opinion from him. I wish you the very best and keep us all posted.
Thank you!
MRIs done initially every 3 months with meningiomas seems to be the norm. That is the case with me.
The meningioma may not be your issue, given other symptoms you're having. It seems to me you might want to check with an audiologist about the ear issue. Ask a lot of questions, especially if you're not getting a satisfactory response.
This is my advice:
I agree with monitoring every 3 months and get your hearing tested by an audiologist. Definitely have a referral to a neurosurgeon. Most meningiomas are grade 1 and grow silent. About 85% are benign. Mine was grade 2, which is the atypical one that also regrows. I have been in treatments for more than a year including 2 surgeries and radiation. If I have had symptoms earlier, I would have acted earlier but when I started to have double vision my tumor has grown so much that had extended from the fronto temporal area to behind my eye and sinuses. Thus, the sooner these things are addressed the better. Again, talking from my own experience and from my readings and doctor's visits during these past 14 months.
Hope you find the right path to manage your meningioma, and best to you.
@haw2xq, I'm glad that you got a referral to a neurologist and you're taking care of your health. It sounds like you have a very busy life being a full time caregiver for your son and working full time. It's hard to imagine finding time to go to medical appointments for yourself. But it's necessary.
When is your appointment with the neurologist?
