Thanks for your reply! It really sounds similar so at my next doctors visit I'm definitely gonna ask to try blexten even though I don't know if it's available here (I'm from the Netherlands).

About Blexten
Blexten is a second-generation antihistamine drug for the symptomatic relief
of allergic rhinitis and chronic spontaneous urticaria. Blexten exerts its

I just found out they sell Allegra with bilastine (blexten) over the counter in Germany (I live very close to the German border). So I'll get some later this week. Then I'll have to ask my doc to prescribe montelukast to be able to take the same combo as you. But will try the blexten first!

I have had postnasal drip dor many years and like a previous poster it has gotten worse with age and perhaps as a consequence of covid. I used to tale otc antihistamines - thise no longer work. I am seeing the ent for this. Allegra and astepro did bot work. Next singulair and riyalis nasal spray. The singulair made my depression much worse and caused memory problems. I am going back to the ENT today. About 10 years ago , i had allergy shots . He will probably recommend allergy testing. Not a major’problem in comparison with others, but it is most annoying to be constantly clearing my throat.

ENT doc said it’s completely safe; I can “bathe” in if I want.

Thanks I will look for that. Today i am going to get allergy tested. The singulair seemed to be working either that or the change in climate when i went to the NC mountains. I had to stop the Singulair after about 10 days due to side effects- memory issues and worsening depression. I may also try an otc acid reflux pill as several posts mentioned “silent reflux “

This is long and apologize. I have had allergies all my life and was on allergy shots almost consecutively for 25 years. I had sinus surgery 20 years ago to clean out infections that antibiotics didn't take care of. I also have extremely dry sinuses and my nose bleeds when the humidity drops and in high altitudes. I also have acid reflux and esophagus motility issues that cause reflux in my throat. However, I constantly have mucus in my throat and it is much worse when I lay down. ENT has told me it is not from sinuses and is caused by acid reflux but I totally disagree even though CT scan shows clear sinuses. I have been on PPI's for the acid reflux but it hasn't helped the mucus in my throat and I can tell that the mucus is coming from the post-nasal drip. I have been on prednisone and an antibiotic twice in the last year for sinus infections. Only when I am on these medications, am I able to snort out the mucus. And that is why I firmly believe that most of the mucus in my throat is from post-nasal drip, not acid reflux. Currently, I do not take any medication for the sinus-related issues and post-nasal drip. I have tried them all along with sinus rinse, etc. Nose sprays only make my sinus bleed more. The mucus is so thick that I cannot snort it out. Would love to know if anyone with similar issues, has a remedy for this nagging mucus in their throat.

I have allergies as well, have been told my post nasal “drip” (actually thick yellow mucus) is from acid reflux, and am also post sinus surgery. I’ve been on antibiotics about 25 times since my sinus surgery 3 years ago. Each time all my symptoms (all are sinus related) go away for a period of time (including the thick mucus down the back of my throat and daily fevers). I’ll add that the past year I take antifungals with my antibiotics and have seen even more dramatic improvement when that happens.

And like you, PPIs do zero to help my sinus situation. I had an endoscopy this year to check for signs of reflux and have none.

During the past 3 years I worked with a diagnostician to try to figure out what’s going on, and though the problem still exists, yet luckily gets less intense each year, we found out I have cyst fibrosis. I was diagnosed with it last year, through genetic testing, at age 58. Do you have a history of bronchitis and or sinusitis? I’m asking because CF can cause thick sticky mucus. My CT scans at this point always show mucus and inflammation in my sinuses, and the radiologists always report pan-sinusitis, but ENTs always tell me it all looks great in there.

I have not found an ENT that wants to explore any issues except those for which they can do surgery. They don’t seem interested in finding the pathology for a sick nose if a CT scan doesn’t show a deformity/polyp/fungal ball — in other words, something they can do surgery on.

I recently went to a new dentist who found a small pocket of infection on an X-ray of my front tooth that had a root canal. I just got that fixed and am feeling prey good, but I’m also on day 12 of my current course of Augmentin and Itraconazole. Time will tell if that tooth issue was contributing to my issues.

marjoriem, God Bless You. You just wrote my story. I'm wondering if you have had COVID? I have long COVID and a lot of these symtpoms you mentioned worsened as I now have long COVID. 1) Have you tried irrigating your sinuses daily? It is not pleasant, but, it does help with the sinus drainage & thick mucous. I irrigate mine every day with NeilMed Sinus Rinse with the packets (AMAZON or WALMART) and then again at night before I go to bed if need be. I do not use but about 1/8 of a packet because it burns like the dickens if I use the whole packet. I also use distilled water. Blow your nose afterwards and it will clear out a lot of stuff for you. 2) Do not eat anything after 6:30 at night, lose weight if you need too (I'm working on this one myself!), elevate the foot of your bed and watch out for foods that irritate your reflux. I take a 20 mg Protonix in the morning (Prescription) and 1 Pepcid Acid Extra Strength at night to prevent back up reflux. This has helped tremendously. 3) I gargle with warm salt water daily to help with the thick mucous in the back of my throat. I also use Peroxdyl by Colgate per my dentist. DO NOT SWALLOW. I then scrape my tongue after using this. It helps dilute that thick mucous and then rinse my mouth. 4) Allergies & Drainage. I use Cromalyn spray (Over the Counter) as it works differently than Flonase (which can cause nose bleeds in some people) and also I use Astelin (Prescription) spray for sinus drainage. Please check with your doctor before trying any of these. I have horrible allergies and I run 2 hepa filters in my home and keep the filters changed regularly and also our heating/air system has allergy filters that we keep changed. Drinking lots of water also thins out mucous. I was using an over the counter (per my doctor) mucous thinner called Guafenesin twice a day (400 mg twice a day) that helped thin out mucous. I am praying for you as all of this stuff is so tiring. I am praying for you to get better. I understand and I care.

To covidstinks23, thank you for the reply. I do not and have Covid and have never had it. I have used every remedy you mentioned. Regarding the nose sprays, I cannot use them because my sinuses are so dry and my nose bleeds every time and gives me headaches. Regarding the sinus rinse, I was told to add a pinch of baking soda to the rinse solution to help with the burning. Thank you so much for your thoughts on this and best wishes!
