Hi,

I have peripheral neuropathy. I take Gabapentin so only feel the symptoms up to my ankles and a little in my shins. But, at this point, my legs always feel weak and it is an effort to standup and sit down. Could this be related to my neuropathy?

I agree with John on getting Physical Therapy. With my PN, Gabapentin helps keep nerve pain in check when taken on schedule, but my knees are my weakest link. (Ankles run 2nd) I find it takes longer for my leg muscles to recover from what seems to be ordinary exertions and exercises. (Like sitting, standing, squatting, and even walking through the supermarket). I help myself the best I can with routine muscle strengthening exercises I do at home or in a community class, and about 20 PT sessions a year to keep the discipline and make any adjustments they recommend. I have learned more about my body to know when I’m over exerting myself and realize that it’s OK (and smart) to take rest time as needed to avoid injury.
