I use put Lidocaine 4% (roll-on) on my numb toes, then i slip on my warm Heat Holders socks (the BEST!) -- works for me, I sleep well.

I have neuropathy in both feet with severe numbness.
I was told to wear compression socks and I had same issues as you. My partial solution was cutting the toes off the compression socks. Amazon and others carry compression socks without toes. Hope this helps someone.

In reply to catboat: Compression socks are available with toes exposed. Tried those, definitely did not help either because the biggest issue is compression on the entire foot, including the top which is so hypersensitive. The situation is so especially bad on the left foot (the one that was seriously damaged from fall accident in '21) that I had to purchase shoes that place NO pressure whatsoever on the top of that foot. Shoe on left foot has to be especially structured so as not to fall anywhere near the area between the ankles because even slight touch is intolerable. Agony is what would result otherwise. It took a great deal of work to finally find winter booties and comfortable Skechers that would not send me into Pain Level 7+. All of the leather shoes and boots that I was able to wear prior to the 2021 injuries, were donated. I value comfort over fashion at this point in my life. Having been diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome has been a nightmare since thus far all I've learned and been informed is that there is no cure for that....there are procedures, medications, etc., with possible periods of pain-reduced or "pain-free" but not "pain-gone-for-good." I've located another pain management specialist who is highly regarded and recommended. I'll see how that visit (scheduled for next week) goes...As I sit and compose this post, the entire foot (toes included), inclusive of ankle and up the leg, can be described as burning nerve pain (Level 7). It is CONSTANT pain. I have on loose Columbia socks that I absolutely love because they don't contribute to the misery. I can't be without socks since Raynaud's also exists (can have ice-cold black-blue toes and nails at times). There's a great deal on my proverbial plate, and I do the best I can but the thought of living with this burning pain for whatever years God has for me, is scary. I can manage with all my other medical issues (of which there are several!), but this non-stop burning pain is on a totally different dimension.😟

Thanks for sharing the idea of toe socks. 🙂

I have found that compression socks exacerbates the numbness. My solution is toe socks. Each toe has its place with no pressure. I now only wear them. They are wonderful.
The best I've found are: Injinji.
They are available online.

captboat: I appreciate your kindness. I'd like to offer the following info that I've received via email. The prices and what they stock seem rather impressive, as well as their prices/sales. Please understand that I have not personally used any of their products, but you might want to check what they carry:

Yes, they carry the type of compression socks that you like, in several varieties.😊

TENS has brought me the most relief. It is a lifesaver when trying to sleep. I only use it when I have it flare up, which is about 50% of the time. If you aren't familiar with the use of TENS, I suggest getting an acupressure of acupuncture chart that shows the nerve points on the body. Place the Tens Transducer in the area causing trouble and the other on the nerve root for that leg, Use the lowest current possible to get relief. Too high of a current will result in muscle soreness. I t is important to get the transducers placed over the nerves involved for the most effective result; experiment with transducer placement, modes, and current settings. TENS with wireless remote controls are readily available at less than $100.

The Icy/Hot roll-on is also a help, be careful not to get it in your eyes or any mucus membranes; if you get it on your genitals, it is an experience that you will never forget. So, wash your hands after using, even should you think there is none on your hands.
