unbearable tugging and electric buzz feeling in leg

Posted by kaztaz @kaztaz, Nov 5, 2023

I have a constant contracting, tugging, electric shock feeling and ache behind knee in front of knee, calf, back and front of thigh...like the reaction you get when someone runs their fingernails down a blackboard 24/7.....I'm starting to get to the stage I can't take it anymore. All the drs are handballing me between them. Surely there is something someone can do.........I can't live like this.

Just a thought. Perhaps you could get your B12 checked. I had this electrical shock feeling a few years ago in my arms & legs. You can have peripheral neuropathy symptoms from low B12. My B12 was extremely low and I had to start on B12 injections. The electrical shock feeling went away in about 2 weeks. I couldn't sleep at night because of it. Also, have you started any new medicines before this started? I am so sorry you are battling this. Praying right now.

Try acupuncture.

I did, when nothing else worked for severe muscular pain in my left shoulder. It helped a *lot*.

From my understanding, to accurately test for b12 serum you need to be off of b12 supplements and b vitamin drinks for at least 4 months (the average life of a red blood cell) . There are other tests to be ran too, but there is no gold standard test. Plus, there is research that the "normal" cut off of above 200 is too low, especially if neurological symptoms are present. Have you heard of the book Could It Be B12? I listened to it for free thru my local library and the free app Hoopla. You can also watch the free movie Sally Pacholok on YouTube. She also has a website. From my understanding, if you have neurological symptoms you need every other day b12 injections until symptoms improve. I am going thru similar issues of buzzing and tingling in my leg. I am also getting the run around in doctors. I have lots more to say on this. But I'll stop here while you have time to process and research what I've said. I've learned I have to advocate and fight for my life.

I have this as well. It started in my legs and now it is throughout my body. My symptoms are from a few different diagnoses. Look into neuropathy, fibromyalgia and functional movement disorder.
Good luck!

I didn’t realize you could get PN from low B12. Was it a blood test that told you it was low. It is one of the few things they did not test me for. Now I wonder if my PN could be from that. I am not diabetic. It came on one week after COVID booster, but maybe that is not the whole cause. Your comments make me want to get tested for B12 levels.

My primary doctor did bloodwork checking my B12. He called me it was so low and told me to he was putting me on B12 injections. I was extremely tired and had the electrical shock feelings in my arms & legs. It took a couple weeks if I remember correctly to get my B12 up from the injection and to have more energy and for the electrical shock feelings in my arms & legs to go away. The arms and legs were worse at night when I laid down and kept me awake. I hope this helps. B12 is not something they normally do in your regular bloodwork....D3 is not in the regular bloodwork either. Praying for you.
