Which specific kind of doctor looks into thrombocytopenia?
I was never told by my doctors that thrombocytopenia is a blood cancer? Doctors do little to help me and tell me nothing. They did say thrombocytopenia causes bleeding that won't stop, but blood stops, and my blood platelets are always low
Also thyroid ,kidney are serious, but do tors do nothing and explain nothing
Is there a specific kind of doctor that looks into this? Thank you for any suggestions

I honestly have no idea. I have an ostomy and need surgery and can barely eat now as it and I get worse. I have late stages of kidney disease, thyroid, heart and arthritis and more. I'm sorry to be a downer.This is my first time to talk to anyone about all this. I'll ask for my medical records as doctors work in a school or university clinic and they complicate it all and I feel like a guinea pig. Thank you your response and it was very helpful. I hope and pray you get better and feel better

All they have to do is enter your zip code to find service in your area.
Using the Navigator, you may also be able to find access to a free social worker in your area who could help navigate the next steps.
Your county government probably has some sort of agency on aging. They might be able to help you find a social worker, or someone who could help advocate on your behalf. They might also be able to help connect you with options for transportation.
If you have been in a hospital, the hospital might also have a social worker.

1 ReactionDoes your insurance company have a patient advocate? Consolidation is what I am thinking. I have low white and platelets continuing since my infusion chemo ended in late 2021. I finally asked my scheduling department to get approval for me to see a hematologist. I had seen some other for my blood clot that is still present.
Bottom line, I git a bone marrow biopsy and aspiration ordered by the Hematology doctor and it by far tells the best truth about my blood and what is going on.
Maybe give the city you live near, so people might tell you resources near you.
We can hear your frustration and understand. Healthcare is a tough road to travel.
My platelets bounce between 57 to 600 then back down to 80. I was on hydroxyurea for a short time when my platelets were high. I have polycythemia Vera with Jak 2. and it’s a roller coaster. I see an oncologist hematologist and have blood drawn every month. My treatment changes with the numbers. With this disorder I do have headaches and earaches. I also have a hard time healing, itching. Has anyone found a certain diet that can raise my platelet count? Lookin for any info. Thx
There are foods which can help raise platelets. But when you have a JAK2 mutation, that is generally the controlling force behind your PV and ET.

This is always a subject that’s best discussed with your hematologist oncologist before trying specific foods or supplements when you have a blood condition. Some foods and supplements can interfere with medications.
