I did have that after my THR january 2023. It continued intermittently until July . Knock on wood! I haven’t had this pain recently. THR is major surgery and healing takes time.

I have had both my hips replaced in 2015. I remember that pain distinctively. I am also a therapist and was the first same day surgery for a total hip replacement my surgeon did. Anyway, nerves take a long time to heal. From the point of disturbance all the way past your hip the rate of regeneration could be as little or smaller than an eighth of an inch a month. Be patient. I thought that pain would never leave but it did.

So, how many months would you guess it would take for total recovery? I've thought of going back to my dr., but I'll see how the next couple of months go. The pain was unbearable yesterday. Today it is better. I think stress has a lot to do with pain also. I'll just be thankful when this is all over with and I can get back to a normal life.

I think it’s just part of healing and will take time because I had same issue 3 years out and now no issues

I have had both hips replaced. No issues with the first one but the second one I had horrible thigh pain for a long time after. So bad that walking on it was excruciating. I finally started feeling better after months. The surgeon thought possibly I had little fractures from the procedure that would heal.
Nothing else looked off.
Then I would just get the pain occasionally out of the blue. Recently it’s started back up with a vengeance. I can just be walking along and it about takes me down. The muscles are tight and painful. Usually front of thigh and then can also move to front outside.
I’m 2 1/2 years out from the surgery.

Welcome to Mayo Connect, a great place to share our experiences.
Given your description, I would immediately think of two things. First is muscle tightness that can be corrected with a stretching program, and when thing start to eas, a strengthening program. The second is a possible issue with the implant itself.
So, what to do? First a trip to the surgeon to rule out a bone loosening or othe issue.
The second, a referral to a physical therapist for coaching - it should only take a few visits to get you started on a program you can do at home.
Have you contac9the surgeon about this new issue?

I have the same issue. I had revision surgery on both hips this last year and I get the same sharp thigh pains. I walk a lot at work and yesterday the pain in my thighs made me limp and wax painful. I do stretch before I shower in the morning before work. The pain is sharp. But not all the time

I hear you! I had the same issue, but couldn't manage my staff from my desk after surgery, so I was up an moving most of the day - or tramping through the airport hauling my luggage.
Finally a smart PT told me to use my breaks to stretch again during the day. And to elevate my feet at lunch time, even if for just 5-10 minutes.
Is it possible for you to do this?
Sue
