My ortho is against any OP drugs which I find highly unusual and refreshing at the same time. He says he doesn't recommend any OP meds because he's seen too many atypical fractures on his patients from these drugs. Perhaps atypical fractures aren't as rare as these drug companies make them out to be. He also says the only way to build good bone was through strength training. However all other doctors (including my dentist and my podiatrist) are pushing OP drugs. (And these doctors are all so casual about suggesting OP drugs as if they're saying what's the big deal about taking them!) For now, I'll try to do what I can (exercise, diet, supplements) until I see the results of my next DEXA scan next year. Then I'll reevaluate my situation.
Did you orthopedic doctor give you a reason why you shouldn’t go on Prolia? I’ve been recommended to go on it by my endocrinologist and I’m not comfortable with the idea either. Just wondering what bothered your orthopedic doctor about it. I had a bad accident many years ago and my right foot is full of pins and a plate.
