Does H. Pylori lead to stomach cancer?

Posted by hogan_g1937 @hogan_g1937, Jun 25, 2018

Good afternoon to all, My husband was recently treated for HCC with chemotherapy and radiation. He was recently treated for H Pylori bacteria. in a month he will need to take a breath test to see if the bacteria is gone. I know that this type of bacteria can cause stomach cancer. Has anyone diagnosed with this bacteria led to stomach cancer? Any information on this topic will be appreciated. I fear that he has stomach cancer due to some of the symptoms listed. Hopefully I am over thinking this.

Does anybody who has had H Pylori infection still nauseous and vomiting?
I had H Pylori infection last July and was treated with 2 antibiotics. I felt much better, however a month later I kept waking up again hot sweating, nauseous and start vomiting. I went back to the Dr they did another test and it came back positive for Pylori infection again. I was treated with stronger antibiotics. The Dr said I was cleared with a stool sample. I started living life again. For awhile things were great, then the symptoms came back waking up hot, sweating, nausea and vomiting. By this point I have been to the urgent care 3 times and the ER twice. I don’t have H Pylori and they don’t know except see a GI Dr. I did just that I had Endoscopy, colonoscopy, cat scan and an MRI. My Liver enzymes were high so they had that tested it was back to normal. The only thing the GI Dr found was fecal matter in colon and a small Hiatal Hernia in my upper esophagus. I told him the constipation was due to all the Zofran I had been given over the last months for my nausea and vomiting. He gave me Linzess and Myralax that worked perfect.
I am at my wits end because this keeps happening to me, waking up hot, nausea then vomiting I’m getting scared because I’m losing weight and can’t seem to eat. I wake up 3 to 4 times a night dealing with this I’m tired. I sleep with 2 floor fans an ice pack a-neck fan and wet wash cloth. I don’t know what to do, so I thought I would reach out out to this group. I’m 64 female
The only thing I found for my nausea are thc gummies I can’t take Zofran, Tylenol pm.

hope less… heathy 30 yr old male
an infection started In the lg intestines causing two fistulas to bury though the anal muscles cause two external abscesses to burst which now leaks puss and fecal matter all the time.
Which would be treatable except for the ulcers that were found during the colonoscopy which have been biopsied awaiting results but doc says most likely crohn disease
Therefore he doesn’t want to treat the two fistulas due to complications with the underlining disease
Highly likely to cause Incontinence
Extremely painful bm extremely restricted diet and no hope …

I have fistulating Crohn's disease. I have had it for almost 40 years. The new Biologics will help you considerable once they figure out the cause. They might also put you on a brief course of high Steriods - Prednisone. That will lower inflammation. Diet should be bland and alkaline if possible. One thing that helps make things more alkaline is sodium bicarb. I take this for kidney disease, a side effect from losing so much of my gut. I use about 3/4 tsp in a about 5 ounces of fruit juice and drink it. Lemon water is surprisingly alkaline in the body though you would think it is acidic. Check out some books of Crohns diets. You can try the Fodmap - which eliminates foods that can cause more inflammation. Then you add one food back at a time.
For starters, try eliminating all onion and all garlic (it is hard), and do not buy any processed foods. Make everything from scratch and make it simple.

Most exciting, at Johns Hopkins right now, they are using a gel containing stem cells that they can insert into a fistula to heal the fistula without surgery. The gel helps to keep the stem cells in place. I'm not sure if they collect your own stem cells or use other healthy stem cells.

Hope some of this helps. I know the pain is awful, but do not despair. It will get better.

I have had gastro problems for a long time, but they "flared up" six months ago when I had shoulder surgery, and I was given a lot of antibiotics. I went to a Gastro Dr. who ordered a cat-scan which showed "no major obstructions", but the thinning of the abdominal wall, which was leading to stomach distension and the bloating I have been having. Unfortunately, the Gastro Dr. simply said there were no easy fixes, and has
offered no other help. I have had some relief from the bloating symptoms (from watching youtube video articles), but doing things like: 1. Chewing my food until it dissolves in the mouth, before swallowing, 2. Take a apple cider vinegar pill before I eat, and a bile salt pill after I eat, (I have no gallbladder), 3. Drink a cup of bone broth during the day I still hope to find some help for the abdominal wall thinning. I have an appointment 5/17 with a Nurse Practitioner at UTSW gastro department.

Someone below already mentioned this. There is a diet called Fodmap. and you can look it up online. The idea is to eliminate all the foods most likely to cause inflammation, get relief, then add them back one at a time. For now, stick with simple, bland foods. Bananas and applesauce are good starter foods, though you might have a problem with sugar, even natural fructose. Sometimes, glutons in wheat products can cause some of these symptoms too. Try eliminating glutose in you noodles, and breads. Some people have trouble with lactose. These things can be tested for in a GI office with a breath test. Also after or during antibiotics, it is helpful to add in some of those good bacteria that help us digest foods with Greek yogurt, or Kamboucha (the pineapple is really good). Look up a list of foods and spice that are anti-inflammatory and try to use those. Antibiotics kill off all the bacteria - good and bad. I would bet the NP will have some good suggestions.

Hi, I have been fighting H. Pilory infection for the last couple of months and now the infection is now cleared but it has left me with IM and a concerning diagnosis. Current prescription: Sucrafate 1G, Ranitodine 150mg, Omeprazole 40mg, famotadine 40mg.

I am very concern about this since the pain doen’t go away specially after eating. I am also expecting and don’t want to take any meds that could harm the baby. I need help figuring out my choices here to stop the progression of IM and what are other natural ways to restore my health. Here is my diagnosis:

Gastric antral mucosa with intestinal metaplasia, reactive epithelial changes, and mild chronic inflammation.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Justin,
You mean your doctor remove the complete intestinal Metaplasia? My doctor said is not recommended as it will recur again after removing. I have incomplete intestinal Metaplasia in the antrum of the stomach. Anyone also has incomplete kind and what did your doctor do? Thanks

So I had a screening colonoscopy today 1st one was at 50 no 60. No polyps at 50 . At 60 2 small ones and one larger one. The 2 smaller ones he taught were ok. The larger one he was going to send to pathology frankly I am a little nervous. Any one have experience in this area and words of wisdom to share with me..

I generally have some polyps and all are sent to pathology routinely. Never a problem. Have gone from 10 years, to 5, now to 3 (in my 70's)

I finally got answers as to why I have had acid reflux for over a year since my H Pylori infection and treatment. It is not uncommon at all.
My (new) GI explained that after H. pylori eradication treatment, your stomach goes into overdrive over producing acid. Since my H Pylori was not diagnosed for 5 months it had time to create extra problems as well.
After many trials and errors (that did not work-Omeprazole, Nexium, gluten free, dairy free,… )
I am now on pantoprazole/twice a day for a month then once per day for a month tapering further after that. I have also been on a plant-based diet for 3 weeks (committing to try for 3 months).
I already felt better four days after beginning the plant-based diet and I hadn't even started the medication yet.
I am now three weeks into plant-based and three days into the medication and I finally have relief after over a year of suffering. I haven't taken Gaviscon or Tums for a week, which is a huge improvement for me.
I will keep you posted on my journey but am optimistic!

I am trying no meat, no dairy, no eggs. Eating fruits, vegetables, lots of new grains (amaranth, farro, quinoa, etc) beans, tofu, tempeh... I am limiting onion, garlic, and chili spices. It is not easy but we are getting creative-just takes meal prep at the beginning of the week. Lots of bowls for dinner. Still eating whole grain and sourdough breads and tortillas. No deep fried foods. I miss my Greek yogurt and eggs so eventually may try adding them back in and see what happens.
It has helped so far. Good luck

Those are common symptoms of histamine intolerance.
