Chronic UTI
I keep getting UTIs about once a month. I’m guessing my immune system is weak in my bladder. I take cranberry gummies daily, use good hygiene, take D-Mannose supplements and have doubled my water intake. Anyone have any other suggestions?

After having partial nephrectomys for kidney cancer, I had uti every month, for several years now... ending up in the hospital with sepsis twice . I do not have the usual early symptoms anymore so I've become more proactive. I tried cranberry and d-mannose as well with no impact. The bacteria for mine is enterccous and only receptive to certain antibiotics. I was on Bactrim for a period but concerns over damage to my already damaged kidneys led to resistance by my docs to prescribe it. I did research and found a prebiotic that some studies had shown reduces the capability of this bacteria to reproduce, so I now take a low does of keflex and this prebiotic, with an immune boosting MCT wellness drink ... I've been 90 days now with no infection. Whoot whoot!!
I also test at home regularly to ensure I catch any infection early. I always advocate for the correct antibiotic , encouraging them to review my past hundred infections , tell them I test at home etc.
I had a similar situation and have been prescribed 0.5g Premarin estrogen cream to be used vaginally twice weekly. This has helped greatly.
It is worth talking to your physician about it. I resisted this suggestion at first but now am happy I tried it!
Good luck!
I have had chronic UTIs for several years - some of which landed me in the hospital. Sometimes those hospital visits would cause me to catch additional infections because I have a chronic disease called Panhypopituitarism. This disease means I haven’t got a working pituitary gland and that means I have a very lousy immune system. A few months ago one of my doctors told me to start using estrogen cream three days a week and it might help my UTI situation. Well, indeed it did! The important thing for me is remembering to use the estrogen when I’m supposed to but I’m having s memory issues and occasionally I forget to use the estrogen. The secret is - don’t get as old as I am!
Happy the estrogen has helped you as well! As for remembering to use it, just mark it on your calendar (E). If I happen to forget, then I take it a day later. It is all good! You sound like you are barely through menopause! 🙂
Take care.
I have had this bacteria as well. They ask what prebiotic you use? I’ve only ever used probiotics. Thank you!
May I ask what D-Mannose is?
It is a probiotic..,
Lactobacillus Rhamnosus (LGG)
I chose to use the Inessa Advanced Daily Biotic brand
I was prescribed this as well, but it was not helpful for me. It can be for many though
I forgot to add that my sugar intake is next to nothing. Sugar is a bladder irritant. It’s hard when they put sugar in everything. I used to drink pop and coffee that I added cream and sugar to. Now the only sugar I really get, is from ice cream sandwiches, damn that ice cream, truck, and jelly, and whatever’s in bread. I look at the nutrition labels of things, and try my best to avoid stuff that has added sugars I don’t eat candy, and any juice that I drink is no sugar added. So basically, the only sugar I get is from my fruit.
Good for you for being so pro active! It has made a big difference for you.
Your decreased sugar intake is significant and has obviously made a big difference in other ways.
Your suggestions will likely be welcomed by other readers.
Thank you!
