Collagen for osteoporosis?
My friend's medical doctor has her take collagen for her bones. I decided to try it and wondered if anyone knows more than I do about this.

Thanks so much for your response. Well it would be several different kinds. The tsp of Magesium Citrate that I was already taking in the morning would make up about 125mg of the total. Without having the bottles in front of me, I was getting some from my multi-vitamin as well. What was added was Magnesium as a component of one scoop of Moss Nutrition's Electrolyte Supreme Blend and two tbsps (not at the same time of day) of OsteoMineralWhey. I added up everything and came to around 450mg total.
Now I should also say that I always get sick to my stomach when I consume Whey protein from cow's milk, but since this Whey product was from goat's milk, I was hoping it would be different. So, in the end and based on all the symptoms I had, I think it was a combination of two much Magnesium too fast and the Whey protein. Apparently from allergy testing I had earlier this year, I'm not allergic to Whey, but I can't seem to tolerate very well either.
To be honest, I admit to being scared myself to go on even an ultra low dose of HRT. My hormones have finally smoothed out somewhat now that I've gone through menopause, and I feel a lot of trepidation about what at least the first few weeks will be like. I've had an awful lot of upheaval in my life these past 3+ years, and I really need some time of calm for a while. But then...don't we all.
I am grateful to have recently found this site and looking forward to learning more about bone building.
I have to say I went through menopause early and don’t want to give up my hrt. I am using a Climara Pro patch, which is great, and keeping my diet strictly low-inflammation (no gluten, no dairy, low starch). The low inflammation diet eliminates my arthritis pain and I have to believe it helps thwart cancer and autoimmune issues. Anyway it all works for me for now. Good luck!

I read this summary (copied page attached) on the consumer lab.com website and decided to try taking a FortiBone collagen. I’ve taken the Sparkle Wellness Collagen for Bone Mineral Density twice, before bedtime. As someone noted, in order to get the 5,000 mg daily, you only need one scoop of this (the serving size on the back of the package is 2 scoops). Will see how it works.

I agree. It concerns me that the study was conducted by the manufacturer of the product. The participants "were encouraged" to take calcium and D and to exercise regularly so we don't seem to have an idea as to whether they did either of those things. There could be vast differences in level of exercise, quality of diet and level of supplementation. I also wonder if any of the participants were on a bone drug as there doesn't seem to be any information on this. In the follow up analysis there was no placebo group. It wasn't a well designed study from what I can see. In looking at the Gelita website, the manufacturer of Fortibone, and maybe I missed this, I couldn't find any information on the source of their collagen other than that it could be from porcine, marine or bovine and I don't think they specify if their bovine collagen is from grass-fed sources. So their fish could be farmed and their porcine and bovine could be from conventional farms. I would not want to consume if from those sources. I could have missed further disclosure on their website so if anyone has more detailed info, it would be great to share. In the meantime, I'll stick with wild marine or grass-fed sources of collagen.
I am by no means super learned in this area of osteoporosis but I will say that Dr, McCormick , who definately IS , and Margie Bissinger who is also well immersed in this realm , both speak of making sure your collegen has the added Fortibone ingredient.
I am also trying to learn about collagen. I know who Dr McCormick is but who is Margie Bissinger?
