Constipation, weight gain, bloating
I've had constipation, bloating (as if I was 6 months pregnant), gaining weight and little appetite. I sometimes don't eat till 6:30PM and can gain weight. I've seen every kind of Dr: Internist, Gyno, 2 Gastro Drs, Cardiologist. I've have been through every test (xrays, MRI's, ultrasounds, blood tests), and everything comes out great, except there is always so much stool detected. I have seen a nutritionist and have taken supplements (B12, Apple Cider Vinegar) presciptions (Linzess), Miralax, MG Citrate.
My last Gastro Dr told me to take Dr Schultzes Intestinal Formula #1.
This has been going on for 1 yr (2 months after having Covid). No one can help. Has anyone else encountered these symptoms?

Colonoscopy?
Endoscopy?
I had the same issues Bloating like I was pregnant , weight gain etc.
Gastroenterologist had me undergo breath tests. I am suddenly fructose intolerant!’ Post covid? Maybe.
I have a FODMAP app on my phone and cut out virtually all high fructose.
No more bloating. Weight coming off.
Fructose intolerant? That's strange. So does that rule out fruit?
All sugar causes inflammation with refined sugar being the worst by far. But in your case at least there was a silver lining. Can you eat any fruit?
Fructose intolerance rules out high fructose corn syrup, many fruits and many vegetables. Following FODMAP app. helps greatly because I can have some Fructose in small amounts.
Hi @gypsyb. Is this your first visit with us at Mayo Connect? I hope you'll add your experiences to the discussions so that we can all benefit from the process you're going through in dealing with your digestive issues. I'm in the midst of a month-long endurance of digestive problems, and bloating is one of them. My research gave me a number of possibilities for a cause, and fructose intolerance was on the list along with lactose intolerance and changes in digestive juices generated by my liver and pancreas. My primary care physician agreed that these should be investigated with lab tests as well as CT Scan for video of liver and pancreas functions. The latter just came in this morning, and my CPC will be in touch early in the week about prospects. An interesting difference from you, my problems have resulted in the loss of 10 pounds this year. I hope to have some info on why soon. Martin
Thanks. I get why corn syrup is out, but it's a bummer to have to eliminate most fruits and vegetables. So much for that theory that anything plant-based is ok.........
I cut out sugary soda one month ago - primarily coke. I've been drinking it since I was a kid and I'm 69 now. Along with daily workouts, I've gone from 188 lbs to 178 lbs. I've been amazed at how damaging refined sugar is to the body.
And I feel better, way better. I still treat myself now and then, but no more soda.
Well I wish the best for you. As far as beverages, check out Bai. They produce a line of very tasty antioxidant drinks sweetened with Stevia. I don't think there's any fructose.
Hello @gypsyb,
I appreciate you reporting your relief of symptoms as a result of the FODMAP eating plan. You must feel so much better!
For anyone interested in the FODMAP eating plan, here is a link to a Connect discussion on that topic,

Also, here is a link to one website that explains what are high fodmap foods (to be avoided) as well as low fodmap foods (can be eaten).
