Post hip replacement problems
I had hip replacement 6 days ago and the first two days went according to everything I was told but on the third day I tried to walk around and I had excruciating pain in my lower leg down the tibia or shin bone and my knee and the side of my knee was horrible burning pressure tingling just a deep deep ache. I kept trying to walk but it would make me cry out. Went back to orthopedics they did an x-ray and there was no fracture. But they really don't know what's wrong he put me on gabapentin for possible nerve damage somewhere and this is my first day taking it I'm not feeling great on it in fact I feel like I couldn't even get up and try to walk for feeling a little unstable. I just wondered if anyone else had that problem and did it resolve on its own or did they find the right solution? I go back next week for my first visit and I'm praying for some progress as I take these pills and get through the next days of hopefully being a little active.

I'm betting your Dad is pretty determined, so you might just want to let his surgeon know the plan, and let him deal with it. Like the others, I would worry about clots - will he keep his leg elevated if your Mom drives? Definitely stop/walk every 1 1/2 - 2 hours. We drive thoudans of miles every year, and seldom go more than 2 hours between stops because all that sitting is hard on any body.
Last year my friend rode from Nebraska to South Texas 6 weeks after knee replacement. They stopped every 2 hours, and made a 3 day trip (she usually does the 100 miles in 2 days.) She did OK, until she tried to push too hard getting unpacked and settled.

i had the same issue after my surgery. Was very painful to walk and swelling was from my knee to my feet. My surgeon prescribed a course of steroids and it took care of the issues.
I am 7 weeks out from left hip replacement. I am getting pain in my left glute when i walk. Is this a common side effect?
I’m out 7 weeks from right THR, and have no pain—in fact, my pain vanished immediately after surgery.
I’d contact your surgeon and ask for a followup appointment with X-ray. Perhaps there’s been some movement in the implant.
Good luck to you.
Always best to check with your doctor or physical therapist to be sure, but I am 5 weeks out from right THR and have experienced some pains in both legs (glutes and shins) that seem to be tied to how much walking I am doing. I had bone-on-bone osteoarthritis in right hip and had been consistently limping since February of this year so I am assuming the pain is caused by reawakening muscles that weren’t being used that much before surgery as well as changing how other muscles might have been compensating prior to surgery. If you are having a lot of pain that doesn’t change day to day, you should check with your doctor. Best of luck with your continued recovery.
Thank you for following up.
I wonder if your gait has changed since surgery? Two suggestions I will make - new shoes, especially for walking, so you can break them in based on your new gait.
And if the problem persists, a trip to PT to have your gait evaluated - I needed this after hip revision to relearn how not to limp.

Good thoughts. I am in PT now so i will ask them to evaluate.
Sue, this is my problem. 3 months out from THR and i seem to be limping more.
Susan -
I found that as I healed, the limp became more pronounced. First order of business was new walking shoes because the old ones were "imprinted" with my old gait & limp. Second was gait training - consciously learning to walk without limping. One of my several surgeries had exacerbated the difference in my leg lengths, so I temporarily needed a lift in one shoe.
