Yes it is common. It is done by advanced endoscopy and the success rate is 50%. It can be done a second time to improve those odds, but if that also fails the next option is abdominal surgery and resection after removal of the narrowed area.
Also very effective is magnesium Citrate liquid in a bottle, Not pills. Works fast. But cheapest place to purchase is from pharmacies or Walmart..etc. About $4.00
Hope this helps
I do drink coffee in the morning and of course when I wake up I have to take a pantoprazole and wait an hour to eat or drink coffee! Prunes help and I try to eat fiber foods and that helps but just wondering if there’s anything else out there that I should be doing and I do walk daily
Yes, increase your fluid intake. Although we are instructed to try to drink 6-8 glasses of fluid a day, as a constipated person you should be drinking more. Your colon deals with fluids in your body to help stool move through. Even though most of us have peristalsis to move the stool some have less than others. Fluid provides a slippery path for the stool to flow.

Magnesium Citrate is used as a colonoscopy prep as well.
But be careful with this stuff! A little goes a long way. If you drink too much, you certainly won't be constipated but it will be a very unpleasant, sometimes surprising, very long experience. Either stay in your bathroom, or stay very close to it.
I read your comment with interest as my husband took Linzess for years. He had chronic constipation due to pain med he was taking for back issues. I hope they have found the source of what is causing your problem. I have Crohn's which was first diagnosed at age 69 when I developed a fistula. After two surgeries I have now developed a colonic stricture. This is severe narrowing of the sigmoid colon. I take Miralax every other day and Metamucil every night. Balloon Dilation being done next month.
Another drug that might help your husband, with what I think is opioid induced constipation, is Movantik. I don't know the mechanism of action or the efficacy, but it is available with an Rx.
For those of us that have been dealing with constipation for a long period of time: we must accept that sometimes ANXIETY plays a role. Oh, not easy to accept that emotions are part of the issue m.."we are constipated, not NUTS" beware of your attempts to SOOTHE the ANXIETY, use natural products, no BOOZE. In today's world there is far too much terrible news to cause ANXIETY...your just trying to move along in life. Stay with natural products...works for me.

You're right, but when you haven't gone for 3-5-5 days, ya gotta do something!
Also, I'm brand new to this group. I saw someone said 2 teaspoons of.. baking soda or baking powder.. and I can't find it. Just don't know how to maneuver,or go back, but could you tell me if you know? Much appreciated! Deb
I have a tortuous redundant colon and suffer all of the symptoms that go with it. My GI has me eating a high fiber diet, and taking 2 or more Metamucil capsules each day. I take them first thing in the morning with a big glass of water. Then drink a slow cup of coffee. It has been working! I have to get up early to make this happen as I am a teacher and need to be at work by 7:30 each day. But it’s worth it!
I was also recently diagnosed with redundant colon. I was given Linzess by Gastro, but after a few months stopped taking it - was losing too much weight. Not I take one 400 mg Magnesium pill each night, miralax with coffee every morning, eating more fiber and occasionally have to complement this protocol with stool softener if warm prune juice does not do the trick. It's is usually my first go-to. This has helped. Am also doing low fodmap diet - not sure it helps as much, but do feel better. Been dealing with this for about 7 months.
And probably maybe stress related!
Thank you Catherine. Very helpful.

Agreed Deb. I've resorted to Mag C and though the price was high, it was worth it. Don't know about baking soda or powder so hoping someone else does.
