Anyone else wake up every morning with sinus issues?
Every morning I wake up and suddenly my sinuses also “wake up” and I begin to sneeze and I will use up half a box of tissues blowing my nose. Sometimes it eventually stops but typically I have to take a sudafed to get it to calm down. There are times it happens at night when I’m sleeping and then I have to sleep sitting up, but even on the nights when my sinuses are not acting up and I sleep well, I always wake up with sinus issues. It is year round. I’ve been tested for allergies and eliminated the pets. Anyone else have this issue?

God Bless you. My guess with you having this daily with the sneezing and sinus is there is an irritant in your home or bedrom that is keeping this going since you wake up with it. The old RAST testing ( bloodwork) is the most accurate form of allergy testing. How long has it been since you bought a new pillow? Do you use a hypoallergenic pillow cover & matress cover? Does your mattress need replacing? Carpet in the bedroom need replacing? The reason I ask is if dust mites & dust are your worst culprit, and an old mattress & pillow hold a lot of both. Wash your sheets weekly and in hot water. Also, do you have a lot of dried flowers or what nots in your bedroom that collect a lot of dust? Also, as we go into fall, new allergens are in the air for us that are sensitive. Do you irrigate your sinuses daily? Do you run a ceiling fan in the bedroom at night? That's more dust blowing in the air and it can be a allergy/sinus irritant. Do you change the filters in your home regularly and have the better allergen filters? I use the NeilMed Sinus rinse every day to keep bacteria down in my sinuses. I have a hepa filter in my bedroom and den. I also run a cool mist humidifer in my bedroom diffrent times of the year. I am so sorry you are battling this daily. Sinus issues are hard to define when allergies are involved and the sneezing every morning. I use Cromolyn Spray (over the counter) and Astelin Spray (Prescription for drainage). I bump up my vitamin C in the high allergy season. Consult with your ENT or Pulmonologist before starting any of these please. Sorry for all of the questions. Trying to help you find what is triggering this as I know it is miserable. Allergies & Sinus are very tiring. I can so relate to a lot of your issues, but, not waking up with it every day. Sorry for the length. That's got to be miserable. Blessings & Prayers....
P.S. Have you had COVID? If so, do all of these symptoms worsen after Covid? Blessings...
....for 2 yrs every morning blow blow and blow some more. The mucous is clear, no odour, no blood, it just doesn’t seem to run down the back of my nose as it is supposed to and blowing it out it is sort of like a long string about 3 inches long ... what i “think’ could be is my nightly glaucoma drops, and maybe my daily dry eye drops. Latanoprost can cause sinus issues but I haven checked into as medical are so busy these days. No sneezing tho. Wish you luck in your search for culprit and agree, we have old old carpets wash them twice a year using water only but you know how a bare floor gets dirty... same with a carpet they are throughout house.
Thank you so much for your suggestions!!! All great suggestions. Many I'm doing, but several were good reminders!!! I pulled out our carpets several years ago and put in hardwood; I use nasal rinses religiously; I have allergen air filters in my furnace and another filter in my bedroom; I have hypoallergenic pillow covers; I use Astelin spray, but not every night (I will use it start using it nightly). I do use a ceiling fan so I'm going to discontinue that and I need to wash the bedding weekly (I don't always wash it weekly). I had COVID a year or two ago, but essentially only had a runny nose for a day and no long-term covid issues. My issues were there before I had COVID. I have to admit, I began to assume everyone had these issues and it was normal so I appreciate your suggestions!!!
I want to thank @covidstinks2023 again for your suggestions! The last 2 nights I have turned off my overhead fan and it has made a huge difference in my sinuses each morning!!!! I can’t believe such a small change made such a huge difference! I also washed every single piece of bedding (though I do that at least every 2 weeks). Thank you!
You are so welcome! Yea! I'm so glad it helped. Praying much for you to continue to do better. I cannot sleep under a ceiling fan NOR can I have the air conditioning in a car blowing in my face. It will cause allergy/sinus issues. Hugs & Prayers & Keep Getting Better Friend!
