Hi I just got diagnosed with breast cancer, any tips?

my Doctor had a hard time reading biopsy report, because in one area it says ductal carcinoma in situ but also invasive. Anybody else get these contradictory diagnoses?

Have you talked to the doctor again who gave you the diagnosis? Possibly are you at a cancer hospital? I will tell you sometimes drs do get confused. I originally had Her 2 - when I got my first biopsy results. I had surgery after chemo treatments and my tumor itself was Her 2 +. My nurse practitioner with the medical oncologist was shocked of the change. She had not seen that often. Sometimes odd things happen. No matter what, talk to that doctor or get a 2nd opinion. I have been treated at City of Hope in California, but i follow the May Clinic and MD Anderson in Texas. All of them have research and studies I love to read up on. Once i got breast cancer, I think my world opened up to learning.

Make sure to take someone with you to all appointments. Get second opinions for every decision especially treatment options. Good luck. Remember breast cancer is not what it used to be. Many treatment options.

Thanks so much for your response. Yes , it’s triple positive breast cancer. I just finished my year of Herceptin treatments. I was dx in Feb of 2021 it’s been a road but I seem to have come through it. I have a copy of the pathology regarding both the mastitis and the triple positive breast cancer. It was aggressive but we caught it early. I had a double mastectomy, chemo and Herceptin. I have had a very difficult time with fatigue and chemo fog but I am hoping it will clear. I would love to find some natural remedies for the fatigue, brain fog and neuropathy if anyone has any suggestions? I am not against drugs I would just like to try natural if possible.

My biopsy showed ductal in situ
Then after surgery an addition was made on my report as Invasive Triple negative was found hiding beside the original cancer.
Almost 2 years ago and I am doing well. (72 years old now)

Met with oncologist and went very well. i do have invasive and I do have Her2 positive but she says its very curable, starting with chemo to shrink it - it's 1.9 cm, 1 every 3 weeks for 6 cycles, then lumpectomy, then radiation. Plus MRI and PT Scan before everything else. She says it will take about a year. she says the biopsy can be confusing because its like slicing into a fruit pie with different berries and it depends what part of the pie they cut into, what they will find. Does this make sense / compare with your experience?

I’m so sorry you were diagnosed with this.
I was diagnosed a couple months ago and am waiting for surgery. I understand how overwhelming it is it try to learn things and all the emotions that come with a diagnosis.

One of my masses is also DCIS/IDC and I didn’t ask but I assumed it was a DCIS that had just started turning invasive. The other mass is plain old IDC and seems to be growing faster than the DCIS/IDC according to the MRI that was a done few months after the ultrasound.

Anyway that was my best guess.

I wish you good luck on this journey, one step at a time, and we are going to beat this cancer and have a good life on the other side!

@kayanonsen the image of the pie with different berries was helpful with the biopsy just getting a slice. My biopsy was HER2+ because it got a lot of DCIS material, but my surgical specimens were negative.

oh that's good news right. well my surgery will be in about six months, after the chemo is finished. i'm glad it's not for a while. I am going to Canada on Saturday .. my sister is dying. Breast cancer went to lung and brain. Heartbreaking. we are very close.
