Right hip replacement
I’m having my hip replaced in one week on 21 September’23 will the pain get better, because I can hardly walk anymore and I used to walk around with no problem. I refuse to admit I might be getting old but I don’t want to. I’m a young 70

Yes, I have. Originally I thought it was BPH (70 yr old male); it didn’t occur to me that the THR and urinary frequency could be related.
Anyone else?
Do you have the 'leg/foot lifter' ? That was my go-to. Positioned my 'correct' foot heal on 2" extended box spring as leverage for that foot/leg. Then, 'operated' leg raised w/let lifter. Had to use palm of hands to catapult backwards @ an angle onto mattress. Sounds complicated but worked well as 'routine/habit' when necessary for up to 6 wks after surgery. Also assisted a bit as I moved in-&-out of car as a passenger. Plus the' 3foot length grabber for items on the floor or assistance w/putting on pajama bottoms & sox, plus a reacher for items above raised arm level.
I even dropped tiny pills on floor & reacher able to pick-up. BTW, I was fortunate, although I woke up every 2 hrs--I could only sleep average 5hrs/night until 7th week. Best to you
I agree, I have all those helping devices. Well worth it
Yes, I had a RHR in January 2023 for a couple of months after surgery, i was up more than usual going to the bathroom.
I am a 73 yr old bariatric patient. I had my left knee surgery performed done this past November. However my surgeon will not perform my right surgery because my belly would cover the incision area. I have tried and am losing weight slowly; but I now go out every two weeks because the pain is intolerable. My Dr wants me to go down to a bmi of 33.
I was seriously thinking of the posterior rather than the anterior procedure, but there are too many restrictions.
I am determined to get this done hopefully by the end of the year.
I had a right hip replacement 4 weeks ago. My surgeon prefers posterior surgery. Yes, there are some restrictions but nothing that I can’t handle. The first couple of weeks are challenging but so worth it. I would take surgical pain over the hip pain I was experiencing. I have transitioned to the cane and doing outpatient pt.
Good luck!
Thanks for the feedback, I’m trying to lose the weight also for the hip surgery. I believe the insulin and diabetes are hendering my results. Any suggestions.
I've been pre-diabetic for several years now so that is not my problem. Food is my problem but I am really, really working on getting back on track. I practice intermittent fasting. I lost a lot of weight before my knee surgery and have kept if off; however I've been having problems getting back on track.
Have you spoken to your Doctor regarding your concerns?
Thanks for the info toby94. I will definitely think about what you said. and do a little more research.
I’m seeing a nutritionist and hopefully will start a program of some sort. I need the surgery like yesterday.
I had a total right hip replacement a month ago while on prednisone for an auto immune disease. I am almost 77 and diabetic with a BMI of 38. I had the anterior approach surgery and all the nurses and doctors commented on how they felt that was superior to the other approaches. I didn’t really care to eat for the past month but my appetite is now returning. My pain is now just muscular in the surgical leg where they had to move them out of the way during the surgery. No horrible pain in the joint like before surgery. It was so worth it. Best wishes on your surgery.
