Cipro/Antibiotic question. I am super anxious
I just took a 250 mg pill of Cipro Sunday around 5 pm to help with a UTI. After I took the dose I looked up Cipro to see what family of antibiotics it belonged to, only to find that Cipro can cause a lot of severe side effects with some coming on later after it is taken. I have health anxiety, and am worried that that single 250 mg dose will lead to the severe side effects listed. Apparently people call this pill a poison because it has caused nerve damage, joint ruptures, mental health issues, nervous system issues of all kinds, and even suicide. Does anybody have any input on this pill? Should I be concerned?

I've taken it many times without incident.
If the antibiotic upsets your stomach, my pharmacist recommends a probiotic with maximum live cultures; that worked quickly for me recently. Everything I read and the pharmacist said do not stop taking the antibiotic. They are prescribed for a fixed short period of time. Please consult with your pharmacist about your concerns.
Just to add to the confusion re: Cipro was the third antibiotic I was prescribed for my UTI. At first I took a round of ampicillin, then cephalexin and then Cipro. My urine cultures taking the first two didn't change. I go back for another culture on Monday to see if I've cleared the UTI infection. BUT....what I did find that DID give me pretty quick relief from the 'feeling' 'down there' was an hour after I took Nature's Way CRANRx. Got it at Kroger's..OTC. Within an hour after taking the two delicious tablespoons..I no longer had any stinging type feelings..'down there'.....
Good luck! So far, I haven't had any bad reactions to any of the antibiotic rounds I did do. I did give up caffeine, sugar, wine and also probiotics..as I saw that it could interfere with Cipro. Now I'm back on the probiotics, but not the other things until I can see that I'm totally over this infection. No fun at all! I'll continue to take the CranRX for a while..finish the bottle. adding the D-mannose as well as 1,000mg of standardized cranberry extract found in this OTC drink is making a difference I never felt with any of the antibiotics I did take. Good luck! Hope this helps.
@desidawn speak to your pharmacist. If the pharmacist your regular pharmacy is not helpful, speak to another. I have found pharmacists to be more knowledgeable about drugs and side effects than most doctors are. If you have a friend who is a nurse, talk to him/her, too. Nurses and pharmacists have been my go to for any medication advice.
Also, take Greek yoghurt and probiotics - 30 billion+ cultures daily to replace the good bacteria that is lost along with the bad while in the antibiotic.
