Advice for diagnosis of Endometrial Hyperplasia and bleeding

Hi, it's nice to find a support network like this. I'm a 51 yof who is in menopause and I have been for about 2 years now. I stopped having periods about a year and a half ago, outside of spotting here and there. I began having midline backpain that goes into my buttocks and sometimes down my right leg. I had a transvaginal ultrasound that showed 14 mm thickening of uterine tissue. I went to my ob/gyn yesterday and up until then I had not had very much bleeding/spotting. Yesterday she told me she felt I am in a grey area of menopause and she is scheduling for a endometrial biopsy. I am very scared because I'll be awake but they will be giving me loopy oral meds that they say will help me relax. I'm very worried because the very next day I began having more than spotting, almost like the beginning of a period with breast tenderness. I have severe midline back pain somedays and I believe it is due to potential endometriosis. I had 3 C-sections in the past. I just don't understand what is happening and am so worried. Has anyone else had these symptoms? Anyone had the endometrial biopsy while awake but given oral relaxation meds?

I have an appointment with my primary physician in just a few days so I'm going to discuss it with them and express my wishes. I also am going to call the nurse that works with Metlife and see if they can help me get approval for the procedure versus just this biopsy. I really do believe I have severe endometriosis because of the pain I'm having and the symptoms. The Gyn insisted that the midline pain I'm having wouldn't be coming from just EH. 🙁

@misty51 Congratulations on being your own advocate! Yes, starting with your primary care physician this week for a frank discussion on what is happening is great. So is calling the nurse at MetLife to discussion preauthorization if needed for the procedure. I don’t think that going straight to hysteroscopy and perhaps D&C can be attributed to “just” your worries. I can see that you are going to speak up for yourself and getting a sort of proverbial pat on the head with limited advice isn’t going to work with you. I write this because I’ve been treated this way and it’s infuriating. Given the pain, in particular, that you continue to experience why wouldn’t it make sense to have a closer look with the procedure?

Will you please let me know what you find out?

I cannot remember if I replied to you Helen. I don't think there is a patient portal where I can message, but I know my primary care appt is on the 3rd so I'm definitely going to discuss everything with them. I tried to reach out to the nurse with the Insurance company but had to leave a voice message.

@misty51, may I ask what you learned at your appointment with your PCP? Were you able to discuss options?

Dear @misty51, please insist on having a hysteroscopy! It is definitely more detailed than endometrial biopsy. The symptoms that you are having HAVE to be checked through hysteroscopy! Ask for a second opinion if necessary, don't be scared to do that, it is your right. Let us know what you have chosen and how things turned out for you.

I did have to go through the biopsies but I had myself worked up for nothing. This was really not that bad at all. I'm just glad it is over and now I am simply waiting on my results.

@misty51 Thank you for getting back to me. When did you have the biopsies? In my opinion, getting worked up about getting these procedures is normal. At least I think it is as it’s a big deal. I’m glad, though, that once you were having the procedure done it wasn’t all that bad. I’m hoping that you will get the results very soon.
