Barrett's esophagus to Esophageal cancer

Posted by ricknclermont @ricknclermont, Feb 22, 2018

I have had Barrett's esophagus for several years. I take Omeprazole on a daily basis. It's been about two years since my last endoscopy procedure and I am scheduled for another in April. My Barrett's symptoms have been worse than usual and I wonder how long it takes to transition to Esophageal cancer?

It’s probably still ok but start the low acid diet. No fast foods, Mexican, Italian, cut out fried foods. No soda or carbonated drink. Drink water, unsweetened almond milk which is alkaline. I drink 2 cups of healthwise low acid coffee with almond milk as a creamer. No eating 4 hours before bedtime. No citrus fruits, melons are ok and bananas. Cut out salt and
Pepper. Good luck!

Were all trying to avoid surgery by going on a low acid diet. You can eat or drink whatever you want, Its your body.

Hello! I was diagnosed with Barrett’s Esophagus in 2019, but was never told by word of mouth. It was in my digital chart that I didn’t know you could access for test results (guess I’m from the old school). So, not knowing this info, I just basically kept living life…no special diet, smoking, no med management, and now my reflux is out of control. I’m showing a lot of scary signs: acid taste in mouth, constantly clearing out throat from lump feeling, no relief from Pepcid, Protonix, or Carafate. I’m having an endoscopy in a few days, and I’m absolutely terrified. Advice?

Good luck with the endoscopy. They will put a treatment plan in place and take care of whatever they find. The advice above is good to start regardless of the diagnosis. Low acid high alkaline is an easy transition that will just make you feel better.
Let us know what they find. We’ll be thinking about you!
