Trying to recover from a c. diff infection (Clostridium difficile)
I am trying to recover from a c.diff infection. This started with taking clindamycin in mid January and 3 days later I became ill with diarrhea and felt sick, loss of appetite etc...Went to the er twice, tested negative for c.diff on my 2nd visit. The Dr. told me to take imodium to rest my colon since I tested negative. That evening I had diarrhea and took the Imodium. Became constipated with pain lower right side. I went to a GI dr. pleading for help, I did another stool test and it came back positive for c.diff. I tried flagyl but could not tolerate the side effects. Tried vancomycin for 10 days. Did not work. Tested positive again, Went to a new gi doctor who prescribed dificid for ten days. I am 31 days post dificid and I have almost constant gut rumbling and urge to go. My 1st bm in the morning is usually semi normal, but after that they are always either pencil thin and or small pieces (2 to 5 times a day). This has been my routine since the vancomycin. I do not get dull blown diarrhea..... My dr. wants me to have a colonoscopy but I an scared that the cleansing will wipe out all my good flora. I currently take 2 florastor pills and 1/2 vsl3 per day. I eat fermented pickles for the probiotics as well..... I have many food intolerances since this whole mess began (fiber, many vegatables, dairy). I also have a strange taste in my mouth most of the time, have very little energy and fight with depression. My primary gave me Xanax .25 but I only take them at night when I cannot sleep...... Went to a nutritionist who put me on a no wheat, soy, dairy, gluten diet. Does not seem to be helping or hurting. I lost 20 pounds and cannot gain any weight (I weigh 120 at 5'7")... I am thinking it might be sibo, or candida but cannot find a dr. to test for these....I am in the right place for help or advice ? The urge to go is awful and limits my once active lifestyle.....
Thank you, Scott

Thanks so much for your response, Linda. I’m not 100% but so much better than Feb and March! Trying to renter sensitive foods at this point. I don’t want the antibiotics but primary care suggested we do stool test to see if it computes. Holistic dr did dna stool test, not enzyme test, which indicated exposure to c diff, and with the 5 month history, made sense. It may or may not be active now. Drs looked at everything else from gallstones to kidney stones to constipation, etc to identify abdominal pain and constant nausea. Hoping my body continues healing. Off yeast, and all yeast products, sugars and dairy except kefir, caffeine and I’m hungry but doing my best. Just trying now to renter eggs. @lionness
@mosey is eggs one of the foods giving you problems? They have a lot of protein in them
@lioness I love eggs and used to eat a lot of them. Never knew I had an egg sensitivity, but it tested high. Now we are trying them to see if I have a reaction after 30 days off. I have no idea what I’m looking for but I’m to give it 5 days to see if I notice anything different. I am not allergic to eggs. This has been the hardest thing for me to abstain from.
Recently we visited a gastroenterologist regarding using Fecal matter Transfer as a possible cure for his ulcerative colitis. He did mention the fantastic results they are having using this treatment for C Diff. Over 90% cure rate. Best wishes to all of yiu
@mosey I know when my son was small he couldn't eat the egg whites but he's 43and eggs don't bother him at all maybe being of for awhile will do the trick for you.Do you eat the organic eggs from free range chickens? If not maybe it's what th st feed by in those chicken factories or where ever they keep them?I've been thinking of your situation and wanted to tell you there is a great way to start to detox your liver and you make a cuppa hot or cold tea , ,fresh water, lemon juice ,from lemon,Tumeric to taste add some Stevia if you want sweeter Lemon juice from fresh lemons only not store bought .
@lioness Thank you for your suggestions! Yes, I’ve gotten free range eggs so now we wait and see. The tea sounds great...turmeric is another sensitivity that flaggged but maybe I’ll try the tea with it when I re-enter it in my diet.
@wendyw What part of the country are you?
I’m in Australia,
@mosey I was taking the capsules they didn't agree with my stomach but in the tea for me it works not as potent
I have read about the potential that Manuka Honey has on c diff. Does anyone have current information on this?
