Insomnia & Depression along with ET?

I have ET and the MLP 10 mutation, i'm 55 years old, my platelets are in the low 700's, just diagnosed last week.. I thought that my hot flashes, insomnia, fatigue and depression that began last year were all menopause symptoms. I've been pumping my body full of Bhrt hormones to try and "get back to normal" so I could sleep and function for the last year, but it's not helping much. I still have bad insomnia and depression. Now i'm diagnosed with ET and high platelets. Maybe that was my problem all along? I don't know. So i'm doing some digging online to see what natural things I can take to lower my platelets because I don't want to take the chemo drug hydroxurea, and I come across some info that says platelets carry serotonin and tryptophan and they regulate your sleep and mood cycles........so could it be that it was never menopause that gave me depression and insomnia? It was this stupid ET all along? If so, would the hydroxurea make me normal again so I can sleep and be a happy person again? Or, would my platelets still be too abnormal to transport the seratonin and tryptophan? I have a follow up appointment with my doctor in 3 weeks, but I wanted to see what I can find out now. Any info or insight? Would hydrox help me to sleep again? I really dont want to take it, but this insomnia is wrecking my life and i've tried so many things including prescription sleep meds and nothing helps me sleep thru the night. Thanks for reading this.

I have been on hydroxyurea for over 3 years the side effects are minimal. As for the depression my neurologist prescribed zoloft and amitriptyline. I sleep great no problems...
Just my option but if your doctor prescribed it you should take it, it very quickly brings down the platelet count.
I started at 700 and I'm down to 340.
hope this helps.
