Tymlos injection sites

@karenw9 studies were done using the abdomen but I saw a chart online of injection sites that include the thigh.

My daughter had type 1 diabetes and we were trained to use abdomen for insulin if results were needed quickly because absorption is better there. But otherwise thigh is fine.

I am also small. I inject pretty far to the left or right by pinching up whatever I can grab!

Some doctors and nurses will tell you thigh is okay but they are also often bound by studies. Nevertheless, ask your doc or pharmacist!

Does anyone inject Tymlos into the thigh? It is a subcutaneous injection.

@ykr I have only been on Tymlos for 3.5 months but I only inject in my lower abdomen. My understanding is that it’s not to be injected into muscle. You should check with your doctor or contact the Tymlos clinical educator network for the best advice on where to inject.

The thigh is a subcutaneous site as well as an intramuscular site. The difference is in how you do the injection and where on the thigh the injection is administered. Tymlos is definitely only subcutaneous. Thanks for your input and take care. YKR

I've been getting bruising at the injection site on my belly..ideas why?

@maradeur I have also been getting bruises from giving injections in my belly. I think it's because I'm thin and don't have much fat there. Others have suggested the thigh. My endo said that I can inject into the outside of my thigh if I want.

I have adequate belly fat. No problem for 6 months...

Does anyone get side effects from the Tymlos ? I just started on it and have had terrible headaches . Do they go away?

@franie, I started on Tymlos in June of 2023 and, like you, the headache was horrible. So, I decreased my dose for several months before working back up to full dose. I still get a headache soon after the injection but it only lasts about an hour. I found that if I take xtra strength Tylenol just before the injection it helps with the headache. Good luck to you!
