Blood Tests for Long Covid Muscle Issues

Posted by aztennisguy @aztennisguy, Jun 8, 2023

I had covid in 2021, seem to recover somewhat, than got respiratory virus in 2023, and now my muscles in my body hurt all the time. I can no longer even do 1 or 2 squats, or even arm curl without lactic acid super fire in the muscles, than get pretty dizzy. I have had RNP test positive, but only thing my Rheumatologist says it is that post covid turned on autoimmune condition with muscles, but that is not good enough answer for me. I want to know if my CK and CRP levels are ok, what else can show why the muscles hurt so much all the time. Has anyone else had any tests done so I can get to understand what I need to do for drug therapy, etc. This is insane that not many doctor's know that something is causing the muscles to always hurt.

Thanks for any information you can provide so I can maybe take it to my Rheumatologist, etc.

I ended up with a blood cancer called Myelodysplasia after becoming anemic and had a bone marrow biopsy.

I didn't have muscle pain from long covid, but have had autoimmune diseases for a few decades. I found a few peer-reviewed medical papers on ResearchGate using "long covid muscle'. It is a site that allows scientists to share research. Regarding immune system hits, getting enough sleep, avoiding stress, and exercising in pieces with rest between are important (and all hard to do). I don't know if muscle relaxation therapy would help, but you can check.

I just discovered this from a different thread: The YouTube video “ The Acid-Base Disruption Hypothesis for Long
Covid | With Vicky Van der Togt and Jeremy Rossman.” It hypothesizes that with Long Covid our cellular metabolism can change from aerobic to anaerobic, which has a side affect of generating more acid.
Vicky Van der Togt posted on Twitter her results from using the Edge lactate meter (~$250 on Amazon): “ To say that the lactate levels we measured were shocking would be an understatement.
While normal lactate levels range from 4.5 to 19.8
milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL), or 0.25-1.1 mmol/l, we measured lactate levels at rest of over 100 mg/dl (or 5.55 mmol/l).”
She also shared her “makeshift treatment that I tried out on myself based on our hypothesis” (increases water consumption and a more alkaline diet).
Here is a link to their research paper: https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fimmu.2023.1150105/full

I have also had muscle pain, nerve pain that has been relentless as 3 rd year with this and SFN . I think it has to do with poor blood flow, or not enough oxygen. I have had so many tests and i still dont know causes of pain. Have u had EMG? I have really skinny legs now with extra skin i can pinch easily on back of calves, thighs, arms. Dr told me my brain wasnt getting enough blood flow, he thought SFN causing issues with autonomic system. But i cant get my local drs to help find poor blood flow.

Hello @aztennisguy it's been a few months since Septmebr 2023. My wife has exact same symptoms as you do. Just curious how you feeling now and if any improvement? Appreciate a response.

Look up PEM with long covid. They are doing research on this and so far it is a mitochondrial problem where oxygen isn’t being converted into ATP so your muscles are being deprived of energy even though oxygen is being supplied. Then they are fibrous tissues that are being over produced causing pain and tension after. Even signs of necrosis in the cells. No cure or treatment but with a cause being identified that will hopefully pave the way for something. I’ve suffered for 3 yrs with these symptoms and no dr seems to be willing to treat symptoms because there are no tests to support any illness

The site would not publish my response because I had links to refereed published papers discussing persistence of Sars CoV-2 in tissues months after infection and suggested treatments in the same publications of which I have had success with some.
