Post Nasal Drip Solution

Posted by robbie44 @robbie44, Sep 15, 2023

I don't have a question really, but want to let it be known that, after many years of sleepless nights, I have a med that WORKS. Previously I was given Ceterozine which didn't do it. BLEXTEN 20 MG HAS SOLVED A YEARS LONG PROBLEM. No more nights of spitting out mucus all night long. Eurika.

Bless you! I am excited for you. I pray it continues for you. I am going to do my research on this and hopefully it will be a good fit for me too. I am right there with you with the spitting and choking on this mucosy saliva.

Unfortunately, Blexten (bilastine plus monteleukast) is a prescription medication not approved in the US; it is available in Canada and Europe.

There are other antihistamines available, though. Azelastine (name brand Astepro, generic available) is an antihistamine nasal spray used twice a day. There are prescription and over the counter versions. My husband has been clearing his throat constantly for over 50 years due to postnasal drip/sinus drainage. He tried this for seasonal allergies to try to get off the 3 or more antihistamine meds he was taking daily. Not only did it work for the allergies, he has quit clearing his throat completely.

I'm so glad your husband found a solution... it's taken me 79 years!!! LOL I didn't realize Blexten isn't available in the U.S. It works like a charm. I have Omnaris as well, but it doesn't seem to do anything, nor did the antihistamine .. ceterazine. It's just heavenly to sleep through the night and wake up feeling human. Does your husband have asthma? Seems I have 'episodic' asthma.. triggered by various things. By the way... Blexten is in pill form.

Robbie - Aah, the "episodic" asthma is another reason why the Blexten works for you - the montelukast component is commonly used to help keep airways open and lower inflammation in them. My husband doesn't have asthma, but does have allergies, and another lung condition caused by rheumatoid arthritis.
I, on the other hand have asthma, hyperreactive airways, allergies and another more rare lung disease...and Azalastine has helped me cut down on the number of allergy meds I need but wasn't quite the "magic bullet it was for him.
I'm so glad you found a combination that works!

Interesting, isn't it, that I just 'happened upon this' after years of taking prescribed meds that didn't work!!! We definitely have to advocate for ourselves and do our own research... the docs (at least here in Ontario) are overwhelmed. It sounds like you're very informed and I sincerely hope you find the 'magic bullet' soon. Sleep is a blessing!!!

Awesome that it works for you!
Can I ask in what way you suffered from post nasal drip? Mine started after Covid 18 months ago, first thin then thick. It constantly sticks in my upper throat and it's driving me nuts because I keep clearing my throat all day or chewing gum and sipping water for temporary relief. Also it builds up in my nasopharynx during the night which means waking up with a lot of mucus every day. Curious if yours is similar.

All my life I have had a little 'cough', clearing of my throat. As I aged it became a nightmare.. for several years I've suffered with this. It majorly affected my sleep because it NEVER stopped flowing.. backwards. I would have to do disgusting things to just get it out... like snort it back, then spit it out. It couldn't blow it out or cough it out. I go through... or I did... tons of tissues because I didn't think it was helpful to swallow it. By morning it seems I've cleared most of it out already it seems. This Blexten is like a miracle!!! I hope you get your issue resolved soon.

I think we’re describing 2 different situations here.

Post nasal drip happens when there is a steady drip from up in your sinuses over your nose usually. It drips down the back of your throat. That typically gets swallowed, however it makes you cough.

The other annoying situation is having thick mucus coming up out of your chest so you have to spit or blow you nose to get rid of it.

Hi. Actually, I don't know how I described it, but it does come from my sinuses and goes down the back of my throat. I refuse to swallow it. Coughing, though, doesn't usually bring it up.. trapped in my nose/throat area it seems. Fortunately that Blexten is working for me.. I'm thrilled. I hope you find something for your situation as well.
