My son was recently in a psychiatric facility for severe depression and anxiety. While in the facility they started him on Lexapro 10 mg and Seroquel 100 mg. They were giving my son 200-300 mg of Seroquel per day. When they discharged him they only gave him a script for the Lexapro and when my son asked about the Seroquel they said they wouldn’t give him a script for that due to it being habit forming. On the 2 1/2 hr drive home I could tell he had some anxiety. He said he did not take the Seroquel that morning at the facility since he was being discharged. So that same night my son takes his Lexapro about 8 pm and literally hour later a full on panic attack. He has never had panic attacks just anxiety. He was freaking out , hyperventilating, sweating profusely, his legs went numb, his hands and finger tips were tingling , his chest got tight , his blood pressure shot up. He was crying. It was absolutely awful. He has had the shakes and I could literally see his legs trembling as he went down the stairs of the house. I’m so worried that this could be a withdrawal from the Seroquel. He was taking 200-300 mg a day for about 5 days. Is it possible that he is having withdrawals only after being on it for 5 days ?

Contact your sons doctor as soon as possible! They have to come down slowly by reduced milligrams ? I am also trying to go off of Seroquel but I only have been taking it for 10 days and 25 mg not quite what your son went through.

What they have done is so wrong in so many way with that medication especially from my own experience considering I have been taking seroquel since 2005 and at a high dosage of 1200mg since 2008. It is well documented that this medication should never be stopped abruptly but under the guidance of a medical professional that can do a low dosage adjustment tape / reduction slowly over time while trying to minimalise the potential and possible negative side effects and withdrawal symptoms. For this is the only medication that truly scares me considering what it has done to me and continues to put me through. For me its been my solo psych med since 2019 and addresses my issues very well at my dosage. Let me say this for anytime I have done any type of dosage adjustment up or down regardless of the amount it would cause me to have the most beautiful frightening as hell panic attacks very similar to what you described your son going through. Now the doctor always prescribes a benzo just a few at low dosages for me when making changes to hopefully prevent such a thing from happening. Also had an issue with chronic nocturnal panic reoccurring regularly after starting a new medication that ended up dramatically effecting my ability to absorb my seroquel properly which basically changed my dosage. Hopefully can work with someone else that truly understands seroquel as well as anything he may be taking, conditions, interactions allergies etc.. While addressing your concerns and expectations.. Good luck!!

Hi everyone. I have been on Seroquel for 17 years with lamotrigine for Bipolar 2. Late last year I had my diagnosis changed to severe ADHD and am now weaning off my meds. Weaning of lamotrigine went fairly well, but I have just stopped my lowest dose Seroquel two nights ago and cannot sleep. The first night I didn't sleep at all. Last night I slept maybe 2-3 hours broken. Does anyone who has weaned off Seroquel have any advice for tips and tricks to help get my sleep back? I did notice last night that taking Magnesium helped with the muscle twitching.

. Hi there I have suffered with my mental health very badly the last couple of years . Somehow after a stay in hospital I ended up on seroquel . I do not have psychosis or bipolar and my diagnosis they think is BPD and maybe possibly adhd/autism. I’ve realised that it never took away my severe and dissociation. And I got better myself each time I have these episodes of being unwell. I am on 250xr and I have been for about 3 years. Taking 25mg throughout the day as needed but can stop them no problem And have done so . I take sertaline 25mg also not sure it does much either . Anyway with weight gain having really upset my self esteem as a side effect and the benefits not outweighing the negatives I want to get off it . I know my doctor will help me however I’m so so so sensetive to any change in anything and a drop of anything can send me sideways if my body is used to it. I’m just so sensetive to chemicals so I actually think I need to maybe be just on the least amount of medication possible . My question is what is the slowest and or best way to do this to minimise it kicking me into severe anxiety. 50mg jumps are fast however I know you can’t cut the xr in half . But do adding in the instant release suffice to cushion the blow of the drops. Like going to 225 meaning 200xr and one 25mg instant . Any help would be appreciated!
