Topical Magnesium Lotion for Feet

Posted by Debbie @dbeshears1, Jun 10, 2022

Yesterday I had an Integrative Medicine doctor encourage me to try rubbing a topical Magnesium ointment on feet, saying she’s heard it’s an anecdotal remedy for neuropathy feet, especially if they feel like you’re walking on gel pads or bubble wrap and may feel wobbly for balance (not pain). I’m never opposed to trying anything at reasonable costs if it seems to have merit, but while I’m googling where to find it, I thought I’d throw it out to this group and see if anyone has tried it and what results they think they got from it? Thank you 🙂

I just came across this thread from this summer and was wondering if anyone is still having relief using the magnesium lotion?

I buy the magnesium lotion at Amazon but you may be able to purchase it locally at a drug store or health market.

Sadly Maria, the lotion doesn’t help with neuropathy pain. It does help keep the skin moisturized.

I’ve found it can help a little with inflammation which can decrease pain some but it is just something to use in conjunction with other things

When I first started suffering with small fiber polyneuropathy 8 years ago, I didn’t know why I had widespread pain ( wasn’t diagnosed yet), but I couldn’t start my day until I soaked in an Epsom salts bubble bath. The Dr Teal’s products are what I used. It soothed my painful muscles and helped me start my day. The thought of my usual morning shower was unappealing because I woke up in so much pain. Even though I was strong and fit, I had trouble getting out of the tub. I did this for a long time while being worked up for various illnesses, which seven painful years later was finally diagnosed as SFN. So yes, hot water with Epsom salts is very soothing, and in my experience temporarily decreases pain!

For my head to toe hypersensitivity, I started using oatmeal moisturizing lotion. Whether or not I use it, I have to insulate with long sleeves, long pants, gloves, etc., regardless of the day's temperature and humidity. This is one of the reasons I am largely homebound, where I can control the indoor air temperature and humidity. I get about forty or fifty percent relief from hypersensitivity for a few hours with the oatmeal lotion. I'm using it on my arms and legs. Will try it on my feet today. I also find relief from epsom salt foot baths.

@johnbisjohnbishop I have woken in the middle of the night with my severe foot neuropathy turned to cramping. I have magnesium cream bourbon Amazon as well and it helps almost immediately. Magnesium capsules i take as well but they take time to get into your system. The cream does it right away. My experience anyway. Worth a try??
