Insulin Resistance and Fatty Liver
I am at the age of 56. For years I had fatty liver. I tried to improve the situation by physical exercise. Since July last year, every day I ran 3.5 mile on a running machine. Sadly, weight was not reduced and a recent ultrasound exam showed fatty liver worsened.
Further IGT test showed both glucose level and insulin level are moderately higher than normal. Doctor told me it is the case of insulin resistance associated with fatty liver.
I feel quite discouraged that I really tried my best but could not see any improvement.
Can anyone share the experience with me how to make things better with diet plus physical exercise?
Is my case serious enough to justify a medicine? Two widely used medicines in China are Metformin and TZDs. But, both have serious side effects, esp. Metformin hurts stomach and I already have serious stomach problems. Any other recommendations?
Or can anyone introduce me some medicine from natural materials, instead of from chemicals?
Thank you very much.

I am doing well thank you for asking.
I had a short bout with fatty liver. The threat of a biopsy scared me onto the straight and narrow. My fatty liver threat was only for a very few months so I can not say whether it contributed to my insulin resistance.
I have take metformin for almost three years now and had Lantus and Humalog added this last May.
Is it aerobic exercise and getting your heart rate in the target zone?
My mother and her mother both became insulin dependent Type 2 diabetics in their 60s. I am 66 and have been taking metformin for the last 10 years to "fight insulin resistance"; plain generic metformin worked for 6 months then started making me throwup every morning; two weeks later I was having diarrhea as well as throwing up; went on Glumetz for 3 years until my insurance would no longer cover it; took glucophage generic for 1 year and developed same gastrointestinal problems. Went back on Glumetz even though medicare won't cover it and after 9 months I have the same stomach and bowel issues. My bowels are so runny that I literally walk around with tp in my rear to prevent accidents in public. What else can I take for insulin resistance?
I have fatty liver and was advised to take milk thistle and I think later this year a new medication is going to be introduced for fatty liver. That us what my gi told me
