Corneal Erosion

Posted by paktoledo @paktoledo, Aug 15, 2023

I have had 5 corneal erosion since February. I have had eye drops, antibiotic ointment, and bandaged contacts. Still hasn't help. I run a humidifier in my room always.
Does anyone have the same problems? If so, how are you being treated for them? I amNOT a candidate for plugs.
Thank you,Pat

Hi Pat, you might want to look into the option of corneal debridement. I had the same issues, due to map dot fingerprint dystrophy, and I the erosions stopped after this procedure.

Thank you for your comment. I think I may get plugs. Thanks for your insight on coreal debriment.
I will consider that. Did it involve laser surgery?

Hi, corneal debridement is the scraping away of the involved areas of the cornea. The idea is that the cornea that grows back will be of a better quality and “sticks” better.
The scraping is done with a tool. Then they eye will be polished, and also micropunctures can be considered ( I had micopunctures too). It means a hooked needle will be used to create dozens of small scars, and this will also make the cornea stick better.

The debridement can also be done with a laser, but to my best knowledge this. Is considered as a next step if the scraping (abrasio) proves not to be sufficient. Laser is more invasive (and more expensive).

All the best.
