Berberine as a daily supplement
Hello
I’ve read thoroughly about Berberine and it’s beneficial in literature..
Still not sure if it can be used as a daily supplement?
Any idea?

Welcome @emtsnts, I don't really know the answer but the following article does mention your question and has some links to studies on the topic.

There is also this study using mice - Berberine derivatives reduce atherosclerotic plaque size and vulnerability in apoE−/− mice: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4261588/.
Can you share what prompted your question? Did you have a discussion with your doctor?
Thanks. I came across a you tube video talking about Berberine. I wanted to get opinions.
Here's a link about berberine as a supplement that may answer your question.

I TAKE EVERY DAY BUT ASK YOUR DR.
From what I've read about some of the herbal-based compounds like this I get the feeling that they have traditionally been used on a somewhat short-term basis, and possibly also in smaller doses than what we can buy today in an extract or a pill. I try to keep that in mind.
I've never tried berberine. I think I may have read that one of the places you can find it is in the leaves of blueberry bushes? I've also seen an article about a man who found out he had G6PD deficiency because he developed anemia after taking berberine for several weeks. Although not everyone with G6PD deficiency will have that reaction, since there are a number of different (though obviously similar) genetic anomalies that can weaken the G6PD enzyme.
I have been taking berberine for about 2 months now. I didnt have any unpleasant side effects (I used to take metformin and that will get you running to the bathroom the first week). I am however seeing a definate difference in my blood glucose. I have struggled to keep it under 100 even after a 20 - 24 hour fast. I have been eating mostly Zero Carb for years now and the blood glucose still was running 100 to 120. Taking this berberine has made a big difference. I noticed the difference right about a month in and it is continuing to improve. I started out at 500 mg 3 times a day. I haven't noticed any help with weight loss yet, I have recently been prescribed some low dose NP thyroid. Hopefully, once the thyroid gets regulated better, weight loss will follow. I never noticed ANY kind of improvement while on metformin, no help losing weight or minimizing the BG. I just now wonder what happens if I quit the berberine? I tried to google that question but have yet to really get any kind of answer.
I have now taken berberine daily for 18 months. My weight has been stable; I have no bloating and no moon face (as I had last time on steroids); my BP is normal; my bloodwork is just what it was prior to PMR. So...I love berberine!
I have taken Berberine for about 4 years. I ran across an article about helping with Cholesterol. I have genetic cholesterol and I tried statins with terrible side effects. So I thought why not. It did not help my cholesterol. I actually ended up with a blocked carotid while taking it. My glucose has always been about mid eighties and my A1C around 5.5. My CBC panel is good. Prednisone caused my glucose to go up and my A1C and my BP. I have continued to take it. 1000mg day. I have been off prednisone for about 2 years and everything is now stable. But I cant say that its helped or hurt. I am 72. My glucose is now about 90. A1C is 6.0 and my BP 120/70. I have not had a Dr tell me to not take it. I have a little bit of IBS from before berberine and I would say no worse.
Did you have any nutritional deficiencies related to hypothyroid cause quite honestly I was given levo . and my symptoms went from none before the Levo to sx of hyperthyroid while on the levo. . Dr. ignored my complaints, so after 4 1/2 years I advised him that I was weaning myself off. It was the best decision for me, but I am left with great sensitivity to heat and for someone one who hadn't even had a hot flash it has been indeed uncomfortable . I am just trying to make sense of what happened to me. Thank You
I have followed a couple of DC on You Tube who have recommended flax and unsweeten apple sauce in the A.M. which helps keep you regular and also helps with BP. I tried it and it does indeed work . It is healthy and assists with health I have found !
