Healthy diets for cancer patients
Are there any diets proven to suppress cancer?
I have people telling me that cancer feeds on what we all eat. Is anyone aware of any studies done that have proven various foods can actually help kill cancer?

You might want to have somebody check into the cause of your reflux before you try drastically changing your diet. Taking a zantac now and the might be just easier for you. Plenty of stuff to read about the Mediterranean diet. Unlike most diets, the food actually tastes good. Spoil yourself a little. Everything's going to be alright.
Thank you for your feedback, I will check with my doctor regarding the zantac, As far as my diet, I am a very healthy eater, lots of veggies and fruits, soon I will have ample supply to cherries again, the best thing to discourage cancer and other problems. I grew up on the Mediterranean diet ( family is Italian) and I always had a "sensitive stomach" just gets worse as I get older. Lacey
Hi Katem, I am certainly going to research the Alkaline diet, I never heard of that before. I am not a meat eater, very seldom and than it is very small. I love seafood, but don't over-do anything. I sleep around 8-9 hours a night, I am trying to do everything right, since cancer you get very careful in everything you do. Iam doing great, in remission close to a year, want to keep it that way. Will get together again when I do the alkaline thing. Lacey
Sounds good. Have a look at NutriBullet - The World's Original Nutrient Extractor
More than just a blender, the NutriBullet breaks down whole fruits & veggies to extract the maximum nutrition.
Inexpensive and simple way to get concentrated nutrients.
Thank you John, but I am way ahead of you, I have been "blending"for years now, I use all green veggies, including , Kale, spinach, celery, broccoli and some fruit, I also spinkle in some turmeric, it tastes wonderful and gives me the energy I lost during chemo, so stayed with it after the remission. Tuesday is Scan day, so heres to good news day. Hooray, Lacey
Actually a question please. I read that ground flaxseed is dangerous for estrogen+ cancer survivor because of Phytoestrogens I has my first time in 2000 with total hysterectomy in 2001 with 16 Radiation treatments and 5 years of Tamoxifen then a reoccurrence in 2011 with Mastectomy with 4 chemotherapy treatments and will be ending my 5th year of Letrozole in April. I have been eating ground flaxseed every morning in my yogurt (3Tbls) for the last 15 years.
So should I stop it altogether. I started it because of high cholesterol which because of it has gone back to normal.

Good question about flaxseed and phytoestrogens. I found this article from the Oncology Nutrition Dietetic Practice Group helpful in untangling your question.
- Flaxseeds and Breast Cancer https://www.oncologynutrition.org/erfc/hot-topics/flaxseeds-and-breast-cancer/
Here's an excerpt from the conclusion
"While research has shown some benefits with regards to ER+ breast cancer cell death and prevention of metastases within mice and cellular models, it is recommended that human intake should be through diet only, not supplementation. Only moderate amounts of ground flaxseeds, up to two to three tablespoons per day at most, should be eaten.
Always consult your health care team prior to making any changes to your diet or the dietary supplements you are using."
There are other dietary changes you may wish to investigate to help control your cholesterol. Consider joining this discussion on Connect:

Ellie, have you spoken to a dietician about this?
I'm on a low fiber diet since starting chemo treatments for Non Hodgkins Lymphoma.
Any special reason for a low fiber diet?
Thanks @johnwburns. I checked into this further. What an eye opener. Here I’ve been taking them thinking I was helping myself. My gallbladder was cancerous & removed. I am on chemo now & will have radiation this fall.
