Kinesiology taping: Does it work to help posture?
Although I am quite old and therefore my muscles are quite set in their ways my physiotherapist is attempting to take pressure off my back and shoulders and relieve pain by using adhesive tape which I wear what a few days at a time does anyone have any experience of this and all all wearing a mechanic brace. Obviously this is not a solution but I'm hoping it might help a little bit

I have used the adhesive tape before to alleviate pain in my neck and back. It's great because it controls muscles movement and reeducates it. But from what I know it shouldn't be used for long periods to avoid muscles dependency on it. Best of luck,
@lotsofpain, I've used kinesiology tape to help retrain me to hold a better posture. I have a habit of slouching my shoulders forward and need to build muscles to create a habit of better posture. The KT tape helps remind me, especially when sitting at the computer. Like @imatine said, I don't use it always or for long periods of time or else I would just become accustomed to the tape and the reminder and ignore it. That's just my experience. But I'd like to bring @sabine66 @marye2 and @sueinmn into this conversation too.
@lotsofpain, did you use KT tape for your hip issues as described in this past discussion? https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/hip-pain-2/?pg=1#comment-386465 Did it help?
Is there a particular Pattern of taping that works best for you .
Hi physio to try on my hip but ended up using a wide bandage plus tape on my lumbar spine.
HI, I have experience with kinesiology tape, dating back nearly 20 years to when many thought of it as a fad. It is most successful used in smaller areas, and there are many online videos by PT's using it for specific issues, mostly sports related. For those of us dealing with pain, posture correction, etc who have underlying conditions, it is most effective to see a PT trained in the use - you can find out by asking on the phone if they are trained.
As for hips, using the tape on the spine is typical, with a pattern on the hip to support the specific area. Here are a couple examples

It truly helps to have help doing this.

Definitely helps to have someone to help particularly with taping on the shoulders and upper back where you cannot reach it to remove it by yourself it's also important to have someone do it as tape Burns can occur if the ends are not secured properly
Has anyone found having your shoulders taped back or your spine taped to be of benefit

Has taping helped your posture?
It certainly helps while its there either the rigid or more flexible type but i have not really found it has any noticeable educative effects in terms of long term benefits in terms of improving posture without the help of tape. Its also not cheap and to be effectice at all you need someone to help applying and removing it as it is quite easy to get burns and blisters at the end of the tape when it inevitably moves as it loses adhesion over a few days and or if you try to remove it yourself from places you cannot quite reach properly
K-tape is my new best friend! I can tape a hand joint or shoulder, and skip a pain pill. My pt used it to begin therapy on a shoulder, and I went from them to self tapeing as needed, and it has helped immensely! Every rheumatologist should offer it! Oh, I have rheumatoid, osteoarthritis, and gouty arthritis, I’m 84 . Love it!!
How can I apply kinesiology tape for a posture without help
