Seroquel for anxiety, social anxiety & PTSD

Posted by Missyb57 @missyb57, Apr 2, 2016

I have had anxiety & social anxiety since childhood, i am 59 female. My PCP has always treated me I have been on Xanax for at least 15 years I currently take a half milligram at bedtime on a regular basis and I take a half a milligram whenever I'm having an anxiety issue. I only get 24 1 milligram pills per month so I make them last all month. I have tried Prozac but I did not like the way that it made me feel. I also tried Cymbalta and had a major panic attack after just two pills and had to go on high doses of Xanax and Xanax XR to get through that. My PCP now wants me to take Seroquel titrated up to 200 milligrams per night. After reading all the side effects of it it literally gave me an anxiety attack just reading it. I know when I tell him that I can't take this pill he's going to be upset with me has that's the way he is. Anyone have used Seroquel for anxiety and PTSD here. Thank you.

I have been on many different medications for anxiety and depression. My husband of 39 years was cheating on me and stealing my money. We filed for bankruptcy and the bank foreclosed on our house. We divorced. I am a nurse so very stressful job requiring a job change. I have been seeing a Psychologist for 14 years who helped me through these major issues. I’m presently well maintained on Wellbutrin 200 mg SR and Clonazepam 1 mg 3 times a day. Recently add Lexapro 10 mg. I had TMS or Transcranial magnetic stimulation. It is a huge commitment for the first 6 weeks. It is not pain free but is tolerable. I had severe headaches after every treatment. I finished in September and I feel like a new person! I have so much more energy and motivation, I can carry on a conversation, I don’t have that constant low level anxiety anymore. I am happy, look forward to things and feel more hopeful about the future. There are a couple of methods, I used Brainsway. I was on Seroquol for anxiety and sleep. Worked well but kept falling down. After major Neuro workup had to wean off Seroquel. Stopped falling! I found that tonic water helped restless legs due to Quinine. I take Somnapure for sleep which is an herbal preparation. Work well for me. Good luck. I would encourage anyone with anxiety and depression to look into TMS!

Hi, @flyingfree53 - welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I can imagine this has been a very difficult time with the divorce, bankruptcy and foreclosure on your home. Sounds like you've tried many treatments for your anxiety and depression. Glad to hear your transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) was successful and helped you feel like a new person.

I'd like you to meet @parus @jakedduck1 @gailb @tartanandi @frankie @hopeful33250 and others. Perhaps some members will have questions for you on the treatments you've been through.

How have things gone with your housing and career since some of these major issues occurred?

@parus
So sorry to hear that. It’s really a shame that a medication that can be so helpful for certain illnesses can also be so harmful.
Are you planning to have cataract surgery Parus?
Best wishes,
Jake

@jakedduck1 I live in Hoosiertucky. Yup, I need rewired. Read your words and started laughing. 3 hour time difference-I think. Rewired. How funny. So agree with you. Too old for rewiring. Still laughing...
