1.7 cm Pnet recently found. Is a biopsy pretty standard protocol?
A 1.7 cm Pnet was found on tail of pancreas about 4 months ago as an incidental finding. Lots of scans and a Dototate 68 Pet scan but no biopsy. My provider prefers to follow the surveillance method which is measuring it every 6 months and only act if it hits 2 cms. My biggest fear is spread to liver. Anyone aware of how risky the biopsy is. My provider doesn’t want to risk it. They are an experienced pancreatic team at large hospital as an fyi

I had a FNAC biopsy on a similar sized tumor in the same place. No one mentioned serious complications, they found that the tumor expressed chromogranin, then i did a dota scan which showed the tumor to be a NET, and i had a spleen saving distal pancreatomy last month. Wait and watch is not for everybody. But your doctor should give you a balanced explanation as to why he is hesitant to remove the tumor now.
Please read the Scientific American article on Steve Jobs. 2011. It explains a lot.
Can you post the link to the Steve Jobs article?

Be sure to read the professional rebuttal to that post as well. There is a real polemic regarding NETs and not much definitive protocol.
The quora essay by Dr. Amri clarifies the issue somewhat. The Scientific American article is from 2011 and references the Amri essay.
I’m not a doctor but diagnosis and treatment of NET has come a long way since 2011, OurNET team has many procedures left at their disposal and new ones are coming very soon. We all got this!
Hello...I had an EGD/EUS which is a biopsy to check my pancreas if that's wat u are speaking of..? Mine went fairly well...it's pretty much the same protocol as having a upper Endoscopy if u ever had one. I didn't have any complications but everyone and everyone 's situation is different. Only abdominal pain for a few days after. Most specialists dnt like to try treatment until the tumor get of size to be treatable. Wishing the best of luck and outcome with this NETs and I'm gonna continue to pray for us ALL! 🙂
Correct. Thanks for your reply! My NET team is not recommending a EUS biopsy for my 1.7 cm PNet and I am just trying to get to the bottom of their rationale for not doing one if its a low risk test. Thanks again.
You are very welcome, best of love to you ❤️
