I am now 83,male,heavy, and getting my first bone density scan in at least eight to ten years. Results show Osteopenia, the state just before Osteoporosis.

I would advise anyone over 65 to get this scan.

Hi @ujeeniack
I moved your message to this existing discussion about treating osteopenia and osteoporosis where you can meet others managing this condition like @gailb @jo54 @dolan @rnwholovedtowork @painwarrior @marield65 and others.

Ujeeniack, what treatment or lifestyle changes did your doctor suggest to help prevent or slow the progress from osteopenia to osteoporosis?

My Vit. D3 was borderline low in mid August. Calcium,Sodium,Potassium and Phosphate Normal.

Thanks.

Y’all can add me to the osteoporosis group if I am not already as I have that too.  Note, Fosamax and calcium and exercise and my readings are up 4% from my bone scan 2 years ago.

Hello @ujeeniack

That is very good advice. Bone density scans are good for both males and females. My father had osteoporosis and it was diagnosed in his 70's so it can happen to men even though it seems more common in women. Have you started any kind of treatment or exercise program?

Teresa

What exercise activities do you do?

I do 2 miles on a treadmill 3 days a week followed by 6 resistance machines 30 reps and 2 days a week I do a 1 mile walk up and down the neighborhood hills. I plan to gradually extend that to 2 miles. It’ll be a bit.
