Have any of your men used Lupron shots?

@cal77

I have prostate cancer that has spread to the bones...I'm at 4 months since diagnosis. They gave me the drug Casodex for a month, then started me on the drug 'Erleada'..
I have been on Erleada for 2 months and have over whelming fatigue and severe diarrhea...Anyone else have these symptoms? I was trying to keep active with cycling and walking, but the fatigue and diarrhea are just draining me..
Do the symptoms get better? For me, they seem to be getting worse. My Urologist said to stop taking the Erleada for 2 weeks to see what happens. I asked if this was okay, and he said "I think so".....Shouldn't he KNOW so??? Has anyone else quit taking Erleada for 2 weeks?

I am so sorry cal. I am Stage 3 being diagnosed a few months ago. Live in Thailand and medical is very good here. I have perineural invasion too. My surgery date is Aug. 3 to cut the little bastard out and then radiation soon after for 4 months. Am on Lupron shot. I have side effects but coping with it all. Have they cut the prostate out and it seems if it is at the bones you need to have it blasted with radiation big time now. Fuc= ing cancer even goes up the dick in the nerves. I can tell you at 70, life is fleeting now so enjoy every minute now.

I was on Erleada with ADT for 13 months in a Jansen, UCLA clinical trial. I was very tired and slept poorly the entire time and gained 20 pounds. Also my blood pressure went up. No other symptoms and I have been off of meds for 6 months and finally feel great. I hope to continue to feel great, but, I suspect to new drugs and more are in my future. The clinical trial evidence was that I should have event free survival for 41 months, and I am in 20 months of that. Gleason 9, CR, advanced 76. Good Luck.

To HBP.
Your treatment with Erleada and ADT was stopped at 13 mos.
Could you share the reason your treatment was discontinued .
I have been on Lupron for 15 mos and Zytiga for 11 mos. The treatment plan is for another year.. I feel like crap
I am 76 with G-7+, PSA Hit 80+, pelvic Lymph nodes involved.
Thanks for any input.

Jim. The Jansen Clinical Trial was for guys with aggressive CR. PC. that had not distantly spread. I had Gleason 9, no other major health issues and I qualified. The trial routine was 6 months ADT plus Erleada or a placebo one month break for RP, then 6 more months of Erleada or the placebo. One of the side effects of Erleada is increased blood pressure which I got and which told me that I was on Erleada and not the placebo. I have been in the clinical trial for 20 months. If and when my PSA increases, I have been advised that I would be back on ADT and Erleada for as long as it remained effective and as long as the side effects were livable. I am fortunate to be in the clinical trial although having PC messes with my mind and my body. Good luck to all of the people here.

Jim:
Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF.org) webinar replays: Jan 17, 2023, Rising PSA 2 part video/transcript; I found interesting and helpful.
Recent July 18, 2023 program on ADT. I missed it and am waiting for replay to post in a week or so.
Take away: Some patients are appropriate for intermittent ADT; possible protocol for you??
Best wishes.

Spryguy. Lupron and Erleada were stopped 13 months on me as I was in a Jansen clinical trial and that was part of the trials procedure. I did not have terrible side effects but I had manageable-side effects. I suspect that I will be back on these meds if and when my PSA increases. The meds were good for me

Thanks for b the b reply. Glad to hear you are managing your situation. I have an appointment at Mayo on Mon and I plan on discussing my "quality of life" vs "length of life" issues. If I have 10 yrs left what portion should be miserable? Best of luck to all you guys.
