Looking for app to track diet

Posted by crickard70 @crickard70, Jul 7, 2023

Recently some kind member suggested an app to track daily food intake and an additional app that was $80 to help chart your fat, carbs etc. I actually wrote down and cannot find and haven’t been able to find again in chats. Sorry, please resend if you get this and Thank you.

According to my wife, "My Fitness Pal" is a great app, but got too expensive when they started charging for features that were previously included for free.

She's now using an app called "Lose It" and says it's very robust, and the non-free features she subscribes to are cheaper than what My Fitness Pal was charging.

Hope this helps. You'll probably find a lot more answers to this question by posting in the Bariatric Surgery section of the Mayo forums.

I have pancreatic cancer and had a whipple similar to gastric bypass. If anyone is aware of an app, I need to track fat, protein, sugar, maybe similar to weight watchers, also restaurants suggested. My issues are enzymes and not digesting protein but have to have little fat to stop pancreatic attack. Thank you

I'm trying to learn Baritastic now. It seems to be pretty thorough in the macro tracking side, can set "goals" for individual areas like protein, sugar, fat, calories and a few more.

I used to use MyFitnessPal as well, but got tired of the glitches and charges. I switched to MyNetDiary.com and am very pleased with it... it's free, too.

That is so disappointing about myfitnesspal. I used to love that. I did not know they started charging. I also used to use one called Fitday that was pretty good and it was free, but I don't know any more

I use it for basically calorie counting but I think the more advanced features you need to have the premium app.

Never ever believed it's a good idea to count calories -- it's a strange concept to believe that we, humans, need to Count calories in our regular lives. If this was true, babies would not stop suckling or stop at levels that would malnourish them.

Ditto for exercise counting. Our bodies know when we 're too tired and need rest; or underexercised when our strength and stamina and flexibility and posture look compromised,

So how good is (or have been)my health?

Rarely any problem rooted in over- or under-eating or under/over. When one does go beyond, your BODY will you I need more rest to REplenish.

If you do need some guidance, I'll start with information from government or large universities' health department -- Harvard Health, for example.

Rule of thumb: Eat a variety of lot of vegetables and fruit with mostly plant-based or sea-food. Fat from oils or nuts and seeds is a safe bet. Avoid Ultraprocessed foods, which usually means snacks-in-thin wrappers.

Good luck!
