Anyone had experience with OsteoStrong, who is not a franchisee?

Has anyone had experience with OsteoStrong? It suggests you will get a large increase in bone density while using their facility 10 minutes per WEEK. Somewhat pricey at $99 and up per month, but am curious if anyone who is NOT a franchisee, has experienced this program?

I had my free session a week ago at Osteo Strong and that night my neck and knee hurt. Here I am a week later and knee is still giving me problems. I had total knee replacement on the knee last winter and am really worried that I have serious damage to it. I made them aware at Osteostrong of the replacement surgery and they never voiced any concerns about possible consequences to my knee from trying the machines. Tomorrow I'm seeing the surgeon for x-rays to see if I damaged it on their machines. I wish I'd never heard of Osteostrong!

That’s awful. From what I know they ought nit to have accepted you as a client.

Please update once you have seen your surgeon.

It’s a business and it’s profit based, everything else is secondary. I was very nervous at first as I had a bad break in my arm last year. Hiwever I am going slowly on the machines and have not had any problems.

Hi Sue,

I am not sure what a bone-friendly plan is, but I have decided to take Fosamax., (I would opt for one of the anabolic if I could afford it.) I am checking with my dentist first because we are doing some work so I may have to wait to start the prescription.

I signed up for an osteo excercise online course from Margaret Martin at MelioGuide but I haven't listened to it yet. Hopefully that will provide me some ideas.

I am pretty active but plan to learn more targeted approach as I learn more.

Thanks for asking.

You will be well served following Margaret Martin. She has an online presence, puts much on YouTube, has written 3 books related to sequencing of exercise for Osteoporosis depending on your exercise history and osteoporosis status (like if you’ve fractured or not, etc ) she does a monthly live stream focusing on a specific topic each time. Topics she has presented in the last few months were as follows- weight bearing exercise, strength training , psychological and social impacts of osteoporosis. Participants can submit questions before she does it so she can answer them during the live stream. She is so thoughtful and keeps safety in the forefront so you don’t overdo for your particular functioning level. She is hooked up with those in the know in the osteoporosis world , like Clint Rubin who developed the LIV -low intensity vibration platform that people talk about, etc. Good luck as you spring into her world of information. It’s where I got my start of REALLY learning about exercise related to osteoporosis. It was in my 1st endo appt after fracturing that I was told about Margaret Martin. When I asked my endocrinologist to get really specific about the weight bearing exercises I should be doing he stammered around a bit and then replied check out Margaret Martin on YouTube she would be a good source.

I attended an OsteoStrong program weekly for several months in Fort Lauderdale FL with positive results and plan to restart the program later this year (am currently in NYC area for several months).
I showed the brochure to my Rheumatologist who commented that one of the machines that they use at OsteoStrong is used on the Space Station for maintaining bone density.
I would recommend it.

Can I ask you for your recommendation for a Rheumatologist in the Fort Lauderdale area? I have not found a good one who will listen to my concerns. Are you taking any medications for Osteoporosis?
Thank you again.

Just got home from the doctor's and my knee is OK. The hardware they put in is good but in their opinion there are some pulled ligaments and muscles that weren't completely healed from the surgery and they gave me a cortisone shot to calm things down in there and exercises to do but said it could likely take 4-6 weeks to heal. I made them (Osteostrong) aware of my knee replacement, I questioned my trying the machines and they said it shouldn't be a problem. They apparently are more concerned about money than people. By the way, the price at my local osteostrong is $207 a month. I should have known when I had to sign a waiver of liability that the machines could do damage and THEY KNOW IT.

No doubt the machines can do damage, however they have also had some good results. The science behind bone loading predates Osteostrong but there are no existing legitimate scientific studies, two are in progress.
It’s a risk and as you rightly say, they know it. It’s not there for any reason other than to make money.

I hope your knee heals fast and that you look at taking Algae Cal. Read Lara Pizzora, her book is excellent.

Good luck on your journey.

These machines were apparently developed for use at the space station.
My one reservation is that the people using these there are young, peak physical fitness. We in this group are generally older, far from peak physical fitness and suffer from a myriad assorted ailments usually associated with ageing. Hence the risk of hairline fractures, damage etc.

So whilst I too am using these in Launceston, it is with reservations.

To all wanting to do smart effective exercise to improve your osteo status, there are great PT’s out there that are experts in the field
Yesterday I mentioned Margaret Martin, but there are others as well.
Sherri Betz for one who works with Kevin Ellis , known as the Bone Coach. Here’s how to reach out:
therapilates.com/
Or
drsherribetz.com/

Supposedly she had resources available for free on those sites.

Also, Sarah Meeks PT, long time well respected in the field for expert advice with how and what to do for exercise to impact osteoporosis. Goggle her.

And I’m sure there are others , do some research.

Hope this message gets placed in the appropriate place for those interested to see!! Good luck exercising in a smarter way!!!

Well...rubyz...you are a wisp..what we call, affectionately.."bird-boned"....
The data coming from studies done by NASA has proven that we have to be able to apply 4.5x our body weight to 'wake up' our bones! Now..how are you going to do that safely? Not so fast....could you do resistance training with 508.5lbs of pressure...I think not....
You might try and gain some weight..safely...eating more quality foods and more proteins. Also, check into vibration plates. There is a hz number that is very good for waking up our muscles and bones to start to re-build..also coming from NASA's studies. I have the LifePro waver machine and love it! It has so many different phases that I haven't even explored yet. Even with this machine..I watch what I do with it...taking it easy..as it's a very powerful machine and at it's higher limits could also shake me a bit too much..so I'm starting out slow and listening to my body. I made a spelling error..I got the 'bed-buddy" wraps...feels wonderful!! I think these can also be found at Walmart..and Amazon.
Keep a smile on your face...you're doing great...keep moving and enjoy your days.

I am wondering if you could share a link to the NASA studies or what is the hz recommended? Thank you and best wishes on your journey.
