Intra-oral and throat viral infection impact teeth
I hope I'm in the right group. I had an ulcerative viral infection in my mouth and back of throat last week and it is resolving. But I was just stunned 2 days ago by the looks of my gums and teeth. Worse I seem to have gotten gum line cavities in more teeth than not. Apparently there is a condition that is called acute rampant caries that can cause this. It looks like there is still some ulceration under every tooth that has a cavity. I just had my teeth cleaned about 2 months ago so there is no reason to get so many cavities. Has anyone had something like this?

@sb4ga I see it has been a few days since your post. Have you talked to your dentist yet? The variety of infections and cocktail of medications you have bee on the past 2 years can lead to all kinds of lingering issues.
Also, the artifacts of a viral infection can last a while, and the ulcerations you mention could be another infection - viral, bacterial or fungal. Or this could be an indication the viral infection is not resolved.
In your position, I would definitely see my dentist soon.

I'm seeing the senior dentist at the practice I go to this afternoon. There is still a pathology going on in my mouth and I'm hoping he can find out what it is. I have few teeth left that don't have these gum line cavities and I can only hope that I'm wrong. This started with a viral incidence on my face, eyes and inside my mouth/throat. This morning I can't see out of one of my eyes again. I'm ready to cry. I really appreciate you reaching out.
Please let me know what you learn! Mystery infections can be so tough - and scary. Maybe the dentist will advise you to see an infectious disease doc and they can culture to find the exact pathogen.

Hi Sue, The dentist had no idea what's going on and didn't suggest a referral either. I had fewer cavities then I thought...only 6 and one needs a crown. He also suggested a tongue scraper (good Lord). The good news is that my bone is fine. As I mentioned, "this" also effected my eyes. I saw a different eye doctor yesterday and he said the swelling is coming from the back of my eye and feels it is a systemic issue. Surely the two are related as both happened together.
Wow, disappointing that you didn't get answers. Can you ask your primary provider for a referral?
