Restarting meds: Did your anti-depressant work the 2nd time around?

I have taken antidepressants three times in my life. First time it was Lexapro after my father committed suicide and I lost my voice. I took it for almost 2 years before suddenly stopping it (I would not recommend this!!). I was off antidepressants until 2008, a year after my son was killed. This time it was Zoloft and I took that for almost two years and weaned off of it slowly (recommended!) I revisited antidepressant use in 2012 when I could not shake my sadness. Due to side effects of sexual dysfunction and weight gain, I was prescribed a newer drug, Pristiq. I do feel it was more effective and less side effects and I weaned off of it, using Zoloft. This was because Pristiq is time released and does not have lower doses. You can't cut pills, and skipping every other day is hard. That was the only draw back. Since 2014, I have not entertained the idea of antidepressants again. I can say that each one did help my depression. It might be a good idea to have your doctor try a different one if reintroducing the last one does not seem to help. Good luck. Depression is a tough one.
