The original discussion on Hyperthyroidism started in 2019 but is drawing recent attention. I have a history of hyperthyroidism or Graves Disease diagnosed in 2001. My endocrinologist diagnosed it (I’m also diabetic). She prescribed a medication, but I’ve forgotten what. She continued monitoring with blood labs over the years. What most caught my attention at the time was a comment she made. She said it can be common for hyperthyroidism to reverse over time to hypothyroidism. I’m no longer on medication, have no symptoms of either condition and my Dr. continues to monitor my labs. Has anyone else heard of this or experienced it?

Yes,I feel that's what I'm going through now, putting on the weight but my doctors insist that its diet, have asked many times to increase thyroid medication but declined said labs don't support it.Have appt. in June and will try again for a increase in ,adds a new meaning if you've ever been around the table(one day at a time) but at age 70 next month don't know how many more are left.Im so glad to hear your having a positive outcome.

Years ago I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and my endo Dr wanted me to have radiation treatments to destroy my thyroid and then go on levothyroxine. Instead I chose to take methimazole. After a few years, my thyroid levels became normal for a while but then transitioned to hypothyroidism. So I then started on Synthroid to achieve normal levels.
