Does anyone have any experience with, or knowledge of, the use of ketamine for the pain of peripheral neuropathy?

Hi @jeffrap, There are a few discussions on the topic that might be helpful.

--- Lidocaine or Ketamine Infusions: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/lidocaine-or-ketamine-infusions/
--- Anyone undergo routine ketamine infusions for SFN?: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/ketamine-infusion/
--- ketamine infusion and topamax??

At one of the meetings of the Minnesota Neuropathy Association before it disbanded there were a few members that were using a compounded topical that contained ketamine along with THC and found it helpful. They had to have it specially made at a compounding pharmacy. Are you thinking about infusions are searching for a topical medication?

Hi John
Thanks as usual for your excellent help.
I should have been more specific. I was referring to ketamine nasal spray and/or patches.

Thanks, John
I messaged my pain doc at UC. If I get any info I'll post it here.

My doctor prescribed a Ketamine compound to rub on my feet at night. I didn’t find it helped and am not currently using it.

I have quite the opposite effect w Ketamine compound. It is extremely helpful when my feet are burning from neuropathy. Yes, it's a bit messy but it's as important as my other pain meds.

Hi Nancy
Can you please tell us the formula of the ketamine compound you use. Does it just contain ketamine, or are there other medicines, what is the % of ketamine and any other medicines in it? How much do you use for one application, and how often. How much does it cost?
I have tried ketamine compounded with other agents, and never found it helpful. It may be that it didn't contain enough ketamine, or I wasn't using enough. It was very expensive, and if I used more, I would use it up in a few days.
Messy or not, I (and I'm sure others) would appreciate knowing about your experiences.
Thanks in advance.
Jeff

Jeff,
It contains the following:
3FD5SP-Ketamine5/Baclofen2/Diclofenacsodium3/Gabapentin5/LidocaineHCL4% SP Cream
A 30 day supply is $40 and isn't covered by insurance.
Dose is 1 gram; about the size of a pea. I usually use ~2 grams and only for the freezing/burning pain (it is the most effective for that kind of pain, for me).
I wouldn't want to be without it in my arsenal.
Once, the compounding pharmacy mistakenly filled the prescription w/o the ketamine and it had no effect at all.

Hi Nancy
Thanks so much for the info!
Do you mind telling us who wrote your prescription (internist, neurologist, etc.), who filled it, and what state you live in?
Thanks again.

It was originally written by my podiatrist.
Your doctor will know who makes the compound in your area or you can look online.
